Didn't realise the extent that people get ripped off during the Edinburgh Festival!

Having a look at flats on gumtree as I am thinking about moving, there are loads of flats being advertised as short term lets during the Edinburgh Festival.

Makes me sick what people are prepared to pay for a shoddy flat just because of the location.

Take a look at some of these examples and the cost...

http://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-hous...3-bed-flat-near-arthurs-seat-no-fees/97764380 £2500 a month

Guessing this person just advertised the price wrong(hopefully) £620 per week.

What is wrong with it? Demand has risen for a time and prices will follow.

What do you think is going to happen to short term lets around London for the Olympics?

Prices rise with demand. Not really surprising - If people are willing to spend that sort of money, then people will be willing to accept that sort of money.

Try st Andrews when the golfs on

I was told a story by an ex work colleague that her and a group of friends rented a cottage near the area at the time of the open, only to receive a phone call from the owner a few weeks prior to say someone wishes to have the cottage instead.

A few phone calls later the couple got sent a cheque paying off their mortgage.

The cheque was from Mr and Mrs Beckham...

Really?

As for OP, I would say if people will pay that much then go for it! I was tempted to rent my spare room for the Olympics but couldnt trust a stranger!

Re : The Open, St Andrews : Friends of my parents rented out their property on consecutive occasions to a certain Mr James Bond when the Open was on.

Re : Edinburgh Festival : A going rate is a going rate, I suppose. As students, we rented out our fairly basic 3 bedroom flat in Morningside for about 5 times its worth for 10 days whilst we stayed with friends. We were lucky it wasn't trashed or reported as being sub-letted in hind sight.

£600 a week!

A friend of mine owns a rather exclusive property management company...they have apartments in London that are £15000 per week for a 5 bed/bath flat in a Kensington apartment block.....the service charge alone is more than your quoted rent.....

That's quite cheap actually, to be honest though not up to my standards as it needs at least 10 bedrooms for all of my staff.
Pip pip cheerio.

:D

The scarey thing is that if you fork out the £30,000,000 to actually buy it, you are still paying £1500 in service charges each month.....
