I Currently use 4GBS worth of adata vitesta Ram in my rig and i want to add another 4gb, but seeing as the above costs £99.99 from a ridiculous shop id rather not pay that.. i was looking intriguingly at the 4gb (2x2gb) Geil DDR2 Ram on O.c

The only thing that sticks in my mind is, will 2 different brands work fine together if there all the same timings etc etc?.. or does it all have to be the same :(

Cheers for any replies and help x

Two different brands of memory can work fine together, assuming they are of roughly the same specifications.

1. I'm assuming the memory you already have installed is also PC6400 (800MT/s)?
2. Latency Timing don't matter, they will all run at the same latency, it really doesn't make that much of a difference, only clock frequency.

3. Voltages may be different, If i'm correct each memory module MUST require the same voltage, i'm not sure if motherboards can assign different voltages to different memory slots...

In which case you would be a little screwed if the new memory uses a different voltage to your current memory.

I think your best option would be to buy a whole new 8GB of memory, such as OCZ Gold or similar, rather cheap and sell your Vivesta.

What do you do that may need more then 4gb of RAM?

Different brands are fine, just make sure they can run at the same voltages. As for speed and timings they can be different but the faster RAM will generally be set to the same settings as the slower RAM. It is also recommended to try get them with the closest specs to ensure better stability.

+1 although if it was me id just ebay and buy two matching sticks

It's mostly for the extra headroom when it comes to gaming etc, I've been getting a lot of blue screens lately aswell, with 768mb on the gfx card itl make running things with extra requirements a bit smoother, I may just look on the bay. N see If there are any
