Dirt bike - on the cheap

Morning all,

I'm after a cheap dirt bike, ideally a 4 stroke as I prefer thumpers.

It doesn't have to be road legal as it will be towed to tracks. Ideally 450cc. And not an entire rust bucket lol.

Where is the best place to look?

Gumtree? Or the usual, ebay/autotrader. Obviously make sure it's not stolen, non-road registered/legal dirt bikes must be the most nicked type of bike in history.

Fairly easy to find out if it is surely? No official log book with matching frame and engine numbers is a huge no no. Any other simple way to find out?

What's generally the difference between road legal / non road legal ones? Is it just basic things like lights, indicator, registration etc exhaust maybe?

Don't know why you wouldn't just buy a road legal one. By the time you buy a trailer etc the price wouldn't be much different surely? Unless you already have the trailer which I guess you do

Because the track I wish to make my 'local' is an hours drive away lol. I'm not running that distance on knoblies! I'd much rather be in my nice warm car with heated seats, comfy and with the radio on.
