Disco Jeff- Bridgwater nutter

In Wells we used to have Jesus, except he told everyone he wasn't Jesus. I don't mean people called him Jesus then he said he wasn't. He told everyone he wasn't Jesus first so he ended up with the name. Oh and No Shoes Steve, the guy who hadn't worn shoes in so long the skin on his feet looked like leather.
 
We had an old Polish guy up here back in the late 80's who walked about in a pair of shorts, t shirt and sandles every day no matter the weather. He was always giving out sweets:rolleyes: and when asked why people did pressups he would say " training for humping" .

I think this proves that indeed, there are more out than in.

I think many people are touched in some way or other. I mean, yesterday, up the Euston Road, there was a fella walking along with his shopping dressed in nothing but sandals and bright orange bermuda shorts. It wasn't that hot yesterday!

Haha, good old Moses.

He's been doing the same thing since at least the late 80's when I first remember seeing him as a kid. what's more he basically looks exactly the same too.

He is of course, suffering from a mental illness, most likely a mild form of schizophrenia but he is a good natured soul who has been a fixture in the area for a long time. He will have cost the taxpayer a fortune in terms of his treatment and benefits, etc, but he is genuinely afflicted so I'll not begrudge him that.

He'd always say hello, especially to kids, but even as a kid I could detect that he meant no harm so we'd always reply. I used to say hello to him right up to a few years ago when I just couldn't be bothered any more, but it's no loss to him as he's always talking to someone.

Maybe I'll say hello next time I see him.

I remember being at a pub gig in Cambridge (pretty sure it was the Isaac Newton near Castle Hill) watching a local synth band in the late 80s/early 90s, when, much to the amusement of the band, in walked Disco Kenny in a beige safari suit ...

That was obviously a fair few years ago - any Cambridge residents know if he's actually still alive?

Bridgewater has Disco Jeff and Cambridge has Disco Kenny ... am I being incredibly thick here, but what's the significance of the word 'Disco' when applied to the local eccentric?

Yeah seen him a few times, he sure does love that pole!

Great thing is that loads of ladies try to get his attention but he just wants the pole to himself.

Seen a few odd balls in cabot circus, was a lady screaming about god the other week and a bloke singing dodgy karaoke (think he just found a way to make some cash tbh).

Don't mind them if they just keep to themselves, worst one I've seen was a nutter in Brixton who kept calling me "The White Devil"!

I've read some great tales on there, how someone thought it would be amusing to steal his hat in a club. They turned the lights on in the club and refused to continue until the offender returned his hat.

They loved him in all the clubs and pubs in town and he rarely had to pay for a drink. I was amazed to see he actually has a job as a painter and decorator :)

No Idea, when I used to go clubbing in the early 90's he was always there. They used to play some old disco song and the dance floor would clear for Kenny. Where he used to love to show off his white socks :D

Funny this thread has come up, was just talking about local weirdos the other day. We used to have a guy called Ghostrider who rode around on his chopper all day (guy must have been mid 20s), I can remember seeing his mum frantically running round the streets once when he dissapeared, turned up about a week later with a note in his pocket saying something along the lines of 'Found this man riding through the scottish highlands, seemed to be a long way from home so we gave him some money to get the train home' and £30 in his other pocket!

this guy was always a laugh when i lived up there. hes like a tramp version of that guy from that dance studio program. so much enthusiasm!
