Hi,

I can't for the life of me remember what they're called.

The previous owners of the house used to have a dishwasher installed and the waste going into a junction off the undersink waste pipe. This is all fine but currently we don't have a dishwasher and theres a hole at the moment which when using the sink causes water to spurt out.

I want to plug the hole but can't find what I'm after (mainly as I have no idea what its called!)

Any ideas?

You will have a Drain T piece and currently you are not using. You can either replace the down spout with a single one assuming you have a washing machine that feeds into that? or you could just get a cap like

and that should cap off the other one until you might need it again. Make sure you order the size for the pipe you have.

Most look like this :

They can either have a plug to go in the end or a blank disc to go inside the large nut, either way if you done have either, just get a cork and shove it in*

*Might need shaping with a knife and ptfe wrapped round.

Blob of silicone would work also, then just pop it out when you need to attach the washer waste.

Both ways are diy bodges, the proper way would be to replace the trap/pipe for one that doesnt have the connection.

40mm is a little too big - we've tried the 22mm which is too big and the 15mm which is too small. It looks like below:
