We are in the process of redecorating the living room and would like to replace a tatty under-stairs door. Ideally we would like a panel moulded door but are having real problems finding anyone who actually sells them.

The usual DIY stores haven't been much help and any Googling normally finds places selling kitchen cupboard doors.

The frame is 133cm H x 69cm W. I realise I could buy a solid door and cut it down but I find it hard to believe that there aren't any off the shelf doors that are this size or very close?

most understairs cupboard doors are either cut down or specially made, you won't find anything but standard stuff in b&q, you could try someone like concept doors but they are more used to bulk selling, try howdens to see if they do one yes they are trade but best bet for browsing what's available.

don't buy a hollow core and cut down expect you know that though

A 27" door will fit, just cut it to height. Get a flush door and buy some mouldings which you can put on to make it look like a panel door. You can get pre assembled ones which have sticky back tape or something and you can just put them where you want. Won't work if you buy a panel door and cut it down as your panels won't work out right but with the other things you can place them to suit. You could also make your own mouldings up to whatever panel size you want if you have a mitre saw handy or can do your own mitres.

You could use a 27" hollow core door as you wouldn't be altering the width but you'd need to get a bit of timber to replace the bottom rail as there'd be no strength at the bottom. Just need to clean the **** out of the bottom of the door and glue your timber between the 2 skins, I've done this in the past and it works out fine.

The only problem I can see is where your lock block will end up. This is just a piece of timber set in on on side to fix a lock and your handles to. You'll generally see L/B or something at the top of a door on one side to let you know which side it's on.

Straight forward enough DIY job.
