Does anyone have any experience with VPNs running through The Great Firewall?

From what I've read OpenVPN currently works but will be blocked soon or in 2018.

I am looking at running OpenVPN with the new tls-crypt feature over port 443/tcp

Does this seem like a good solution?

Can't comment on the technicalities of it, but if you're aiming to bypass the controls put in place by an oppressive regime, you need to think hard before you do it. It's not something I'd consider just to watch Game of Thrones. You might have more luck with the technical side in Networks & Internet though.

You won't need a VPN to pirate Game Of Thrones in China ;)

Admittedly a few years since I was working in China regularly but never had any trouble with OpenVPN. Most hotel WiFi has VPN tunnels so Facebook etc works. It's not as oppressive as all that.

I've looked at this some more and found evidence tls-crypt feature does not bypass GFW (the great firewall). I also can't find an IOS client for it

Instead shadowsocks seems to be the go to option, and its very easy to setup.

If this fails I'll try obfsproxy but it looks difficult to setup on mobile devices
