What is the general opinion of this Panasonic HDD/DVD 250GB recorder?

Seriously thinkign of it as an alternative to Sony 970 - can pair it with Pana telly as well

great unit, I have the 160gig version (which I swapped it for after buying the sony and not liking it at all) easy to use, great tuner, very good DVD player as well.

Yeah you wont be dissapointed, Im such a picky sod that it takes quite a lot to get the thumbs up from me :D

The Sony has the better menues and looks nicer but DVD playback is poor compared to the Panny as is the Tuner. Luckily I was able to sell the Sony after I bought it for only £10 less then I paid for it, its amazing what people will pay on eBay.

Shop around, I think I paid around £184 from a big electrical shop (not the indian food) that was a special web offer.

Would the other Panny DVD Recorders by any good? Looking to get one but without the HD really; though Id like it to have upscale ability...

The ES15 is supposed to be the same but without the HDD, I havent seen it myself so I cant say if the DVD palyback or tuner is as good, but it supposed to be the best non HDD DVD recorder around. I would pay the extra £20-£30 and get the HDD version though, so much more flexible, and you will save that money in no time by not buying blank DVDs.
