I am looking for a new TV and every time I set my eye on a model there seems to be a problem with it. From Backlight bleeding to banding to buzzing PSU's.

Are these common issues or do I need to stop reading AVforums. :o

Anything you read online is important, the problem is that fanatics tend to make a big deal about things you will never even notice. It's unlikely you'll find that perfect TV for a good price that nobody has anything bad to say about, because if it existed it wouldn't be a good price!

My advice is to, if possible, test it. Pop into your local Richer Sounds (Or similar) and ask for a demo room, or just find a TV with enough positive reviews to make it seem like a good idea.

And yeah, AVForums is often a prime example of people looking too into things, but at the same time, that place is a goldmine for avoiding terrible tellies!

Find the one rated least bad, if that makes sense ^^

I must admit, I regularly browsed the AVForums at the time of buying mine, but once I'd checked there were no disastrous problems with it, I made sure to not go anywhere near the place for a while!

with Samsung sets ?

Yes they're common issues.

I've got one, my mate had one. Both with nasty issues and poor QC.

What TV have you got in mind ?

Yea AV Forums made me nervous as hell when i wanted to get my new tv
Panasonic TX-42V20B (love it)
Out of all the problem that made me nervous i had none of them. Not to say that my set it perfect but after 2months of anxiety im glad i done the research, but next time i know that a lot of problems are not in proportion

Si, been too busy with work to do a review of the PK590, however i updated the firmware lastnight and i can't see a way to stream from LoveFilm, it's not really an issue since i'd run out and buy an HTPC if i was you.

Will update some pics on my facebook so you can see the menus.

Overall i've been really happy with the tv, based on me buying an initial two sets, my parents and two mates have gone out and got the same tv.

Sound quality isn't too hot from the inbuilt speakers (but i don't care since i don't use them), high gloss screen can make it a pain when sun is shining directly on the set.

No motion blur, black performance is fine, BD / SkyHD look great in THX mode.

VFM wise its a great tv and punches well above its weight, i was going to buy a Panasonic G20 (iirc) but i'd have to put up with a thicker old style panel, in a case which didn't look as good, plus i rate the LG's colour performance well above the Panasonic.

Thanks for that will look at the pictures later, I have an ae 5.1 set for so "und so that is fine. The only thing worring me is that the tv will face two windows and even though the blinds will be shut I am not sure that will totally fix the reflective issues.

Yeah the recviews of the set and the lg for that matter seem good, what hifi gave the sony 5 stars, its just that you read av forums and others and hear of nothing but picture issues which I dont want.

Stuck them in my mobile uploads, nothing fancy but it shows the software on the TV, google maps is quite slow to scroll, i think you can plug in a usb memory stick to speed things up.

I'd be shocked if LG didn't include LoveFilm at somepoint.

The exact reason why I take other user reviews with a pinch of salt. Find a list of TVs you're interested in, have a look at them in the flesh and then buy which ever one works best for you. Most importantly, enjoy it! That's why you bought it so..

a lot of the complaints about the 503 are about the things the review picks up on - input lag.

Get yourself down to the sony store and ask them to hook a PS3 up to one for you. See if you can notice it.

If not, happy days and enjoy it. Place more faith in reviews in HDTVtest, and less in biased crap like AVForums and What Hi Fi (Home Cinema Choice is much less biased)

With all the talk about 50hz problems on Panasonic Plasmas, i'm tempted to have another LCD when i upgrade this year. This year's Sonys (due out in the next few months looks awsome)

I'm waiting for this one

The ability to browse the internet on it using my ipad as a keyboard would be amazing fun :D and its got the other bits and pieces like 3D, dynamic LED lighting, Freeview HD, DLNA streaming, recording to USB drive etc..

I had a LG tv replaced 3 times due to backlight bleed.. The seller didn't want to refund me on the 3rd go.. I contacted my bank and cancelled the payment. Went for a Samsung LE46C650 after that fiasco and couldnt be any happier. I sympathise with the OP feelings as thats exactly what i was feeling at the time.

Think I will end up doing that.

Looks good but is over twice the cost that I am looking at.

Cheers had a look at the pictures, they look good but I see what the reviews say about the reflective screen. Need to have a look at one in Richer sounds on Saturday.:)

Both my TV and speaker system have had people moaning over on AV forums about various things.

None of their gripes have been apparent to me so I'm either too dumb to notice them or they just aren't there. I'm going with the former for most of the supposed issues :p

Although my Onkyo all in one thing definitely doesn't buzz when being used with the PS3 :)

I'm really happy with the TV, cost me £845 each iirc and that was after some extensive negotiations, sticker price in the store was £950, i was more than willing to spend the extra for a Panasonic but after messing around with the sets in store with a few friends everyone prefered the PQ and colour reproduction on the PK's, you can get the 590 for £649 now which provided you get a good one, is a total bargain.

At the end of the day you can read reviews till you're blue in the face but like any geekfest they all pick up on irrlevent things that the casual / semi serious home cinema user will: A: never notice and B: make no difference to the viewing experience.

Best thing to do is watch as many sets as possible then make your mind up, the top end sets have to battle with the laws of deminishing returns at the end of the day, based on my tests i couldn't really see the added value.
