Do Audi still produce petrol engines?

The two engines are closer than ever in terms of bhp - mind. I don't have time to post epic replies at the moment so i'll leave it there :p

There is barely 7bhp between them.

Usually diesel v petrol in the same point in the range the diesel has more torque and less bhp. E90 a prime example - 330d 245bhp, 330i 272bhp, list price more or less the same.

I do get that torque on its own is meaningless but at the same time it cant just be discounted because as the 535d shows 7bhp down but 0.4 seconds faster to 60 thats a fair amount more power at the wheels needed to achieve that.

I can't say much really, learning to drive in a 1.6 diesel Fiesta. Tractawwrr.

I hope one day I will drive a V8 or V10, but it looks like BMW have already stopped making the V10. :(

535d auto 5.7s 0-60, 535i auto (with the same zf 8 speed auto box) 6.1s 0-60.

Fair enough, if they have the exact same gearbox with the exact same ratios and the exact same final drive.

Mind, looking at the BMW website (an exercise in how to really hack users off if ever I saw one....) I see that the 535d M Sport has a 'Sport automatic transmission' option. Quite what this does to the 0-62 time of the car isn't exactly made clear. For all I know, it might account for the speed gap between the 535i and the 535d. BMW don't exactly go out of their way to tell me.

Oh, and looking some more it seems that the 535i can be had with the 6sp manual, the 8spd auto, and this 'sport' alternative. Do the ratios change? Does the final drive change at all? Are the BMW website figures even remotely accurate given that they think that the 535i has a four cylinder engine?

Who the hell knows? All I know is that I really hope BMW sort their ******* website out

I dont understand all these people with flash diesel cars.

If you can afford a car like that, then surely you can afford to run a petrol?

Yes there website is a bit rubbish sometimes.

Just had a look and the M5 is gone

Don't worry, this is normal. The E60 is out of production and the new M5 will be here in a few years (It's usually 2-3 years after the regular car is introduced - 3 years for the E39, 2 for the E60).

Its not that people cant afford. a lot of the time people just havent got the interest in cars to pay the extra costs of a petrol equivalent.
There is also the fact that a lot of people who have brand new Audi's are infact company car drivers who get hit a lot harder finanically if they choose a petrol car over diesel car due to the way the company car tax system works. My step dad is a prime example of this. He has an A5 3.0 TDI purely because hes not that interested in cars, he wants something that looks nice, moves fairly well and doesnt cost the earth in company car tax each month.

Vauxhall make cars for these people :p

There was a time when if you saw a really nice car with a subtle kit, multiple exhuasts, etc etc, you knew the owner was perhaps at least a little into his cars.

Now it just means its another 2 litre diesel.

previous shape only had it on the Special Editions and the Sport

You can get them on bog standard TS2s now :(

Ahh, must be the specials I keep seeing

Edit, naa, i think some of the old ts2 2.0's had twins looking at the auto traday, you reckon it was an option? Either that or they might be special editions coming up as the base model on the trader.

Not that its much to do with the thread... ill be quiet.

Some people prefer the power delivery.
Some people prefer the higher torque at the low end of the rev range.
Some people don't want to be sitting at 4,000 RPM cruising down the motorway.
Some people do lots of miles, and therefore a more economical diesel makes more sense.

And of course, some people know naff all about cars and blindly buy a diesel :p

Like I said before with the new A8 I went in, the petrol version would have to be magic to convince me if it was my money.

The new 4.2 TDI with 800NM and 350BHP is quite amazing.

Can i join i have a 2.0 with 16v and 167hp
Key point : theres a hole in my cat so im polluting the planet and its louder than a subaru impreza with a decat and exhaust

Seriously its probly the loudest car ive ever heard
Was actually hilarious driving through a car park earlier i had about 90 stares

I drive a flash car with a diesel engine. I would prefer a petrol V8 in the car but for 90% of the time, the diesel makes sense. The lazy power delivery is ideal for long motorway journeys.
I'm never going to be a diesel lover but even I have to admit that sometimes they make sense, even if you are a keen driver like I am.
