Do I have to buy the new Halo 2 maps?

I'm trying to play Halo 2 online on my Xbox 360 and it tells me that I don't have some of the maps required to play. Does that mean I am being forced to pay for the new maps if I want to play online? I don't really want to pay £2 for them, I just want to play on the maps I already have.

To play matchmaking you do need them since they are in the map rotation. There are playlists you can play without the new ones, forget what they are but try selecting each one in the matchmaking list(team slayer, team skirmish etc) to see if it will let you play.

I want to play rumble pit which is unranked (which sucks, it didn't used to be).

So basically I'm being deprived of my ability to use a feature of the game because I don't want to pay for extra maps?
