Hi,

For Christmas I'm getting a pair of Sennheiser 555's and the 280 Pro's. I just wanted to know if I'm going to need a new sound card to be able to take full advantage of them.

- All Music is in FLAC/320kbps MP3.

- Current sound card is some knock off Called "SupremeFX X-Fi" its the one that comes bundled with the Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard.

So, will I need a new sound card for them?

Thanks.

I'm also getting the Senn Hd 555...

I always used on board sound, but after hearing my mates i was blown away.

In fact I'll spend £66 on the headphones and £120 on the sound card (Auzentech X-fi Forte) :D

Still has to buy both of them.

If you want a cheaper sound card and perfect for music/movies get the Asus Xonar DX for £55 which is also recommended on these forums.

Is the Xonar range worth upgrading to from a X-FI Xtrememusic with the third party support drivers that add Dolby Headphone?

You dont 'need' one, but without they will sound nowhere near as good as they should. Get a xonar essence, it has a headphone amp built in. Or get a DAC or if you are just using the headphones and no speakers, get a headphone amp

Bugger!

Just went to order some DR50's for my sister, and P*** have sold out! Lucky there is someone else that sells them for £20, which is still good. The age old adage applies, if only I had done it yesterday!

Sorry for hi-jacking. :)

Yes I have an Xtreme Music, sorry for the slight hijack!

This thread though has basically told me the essence STX is definatly worth looking into.

That's no problem. Sorry wasn't trying to imply hi-jacking, was just pointing that you probably had the Xtreme Music, and were not getting that confused with the X-Fi in the OP. :)
