Do i need dual screens?

I currently work with a 17" 4:3 monitor with 1028x768. I feel i need more space within photoshop so decided to get dual monitors. Do i really need two monitors or would a nice 22" widescreen do the job?

Opinions please... Ben. :)
 
To be honest, going from 1024x768 to anything else will be a massive improvement.
I have a 1920x1200 monitor as my main and a 1280x1024 secondary monitor at home. I have dual monitors at work as well and I always use the extra space. I couldn't do without them :)

If I were you, I would get the 22" monitor you want, then use your current monitor as a second monitor.
You will need to buy Ultramon as well, the extra features make it invaluable.
 
See, i dont have much workspace and i dont have a monitor at all.

So i could buy 2 19" non widescreen but i want widescreen as im gaming so thats out the window..

Or i could get a 22" widescreen on its own or 2 20" widescreens and put them on top of each other wallmounted?

Its so annoying being stuck with the monitors as this is preventing me buying my rig..
 
If you don't have any monitors currently then go for the 22" on its own (or 24" if you can)
The extra resolution and size on a single TFT would be the best for gaming and watching DVDs, then if you feel you need more space later on you can get a cheap second monitor to go with it :)
 
maybe you could get the 22" and a cheap 2nd hand smaller crt as a secondary monitor (for the tools on photoshop and to display other things that do not require very high res such as an msn contact list) jsut make sure you have enough space on your desk physically
 
Go for a bigger monitor, and use the current as a 2nd screen IMO

Im on a 19" 1440x900, with a 15" 1024x768... its SOOO useful, and I dont even do that much of the work typically requiring 2 screens. I get annoyed at work when theres only a single monitor :p
 
I worked for years with duals since 98SE added dual monitor support.

I am now on 3 Dell 2407 24"'s and my screen estate is huge. I am in the graphic/video business, so more screens the better! Using one screen is frustrating now. Even 2 is a bit of a chore. I have 3 because I use 2 for design apps, and the 3rd as a junk screen: E-mail, IM, Winamp etc.
 
just a question. why are you running the 17" tft in 1024x768? its native res should be 1280x1024. if you're running it out of its native res it will look rubbish!
 
I have a Dell 24" HC as my gaming, movie, photoshop screen and 2 x 19" WS as my junk monitors. I couldn't live with one monitor now. I only have one at work and it drives me mad!!
