Do I put my car back to standard?

Hi Guys,

I'm going to have another bash at selling my car as a Monaro roared past today and gave me a second gear stick. The last three months I have been tyring to sell it but I was getting saft offers like £5000-£6000. I feel being modded caused people to back off.
I've been offered £600 + their standard exhaust and Thorney will put my standard map back on for free. Hopefully then I can get a more sensible £8500 - £9500 for which will give me a budget of £15000 for a Monaro.

You probably will get more interest with it standard - i recall when I was hunting for both my S1 and later S2 Escort RS Turbo's, I ended up both times opting for std examples. (and then chipping them anyway!)

I wouldn't have thought that a VXR would be the type of car that people would be put off by because of mods?

Is there any other reason you don't think that it is selling? What's the deal with the turbo issue you mentioned a while ago? It was a bit smoky at the meet the other day...

I guess so, my fear is that if I split and it doesn't sell I'm going to be left with a silent exhaust and 240bhp which to be honest after 300+bhp and 370lb/ft of torque is pretty boring.

Valve stem seals which would be replaced with the money from the exhaust if I split.

Why not fix it anyway? It seems to me it more likely the fact that it's smoking that's putting people off rather than just being modded. The prices you've been offered seem to reflect that as they're thinking worst case in terms of repairs.

Because the VXR is so cheap to modify (especially with second hand stuff), there will be little interest in modified ones - I certainly wouldn't buy one modified for example, but if I did buy one, I'd probably modify it myself.

A modified car usually means a 'well used' car. If standard, the new owner can continue under their delusion that the previous owner has never 'abused' the car.

I thought you already sold this for £10k or something?

Its an unfortunate fact, but cars like these have depreciated loads recently - even my ST has fallen victim to it, and I'm down to being offered £11,500 trade :(

Got to be honest with you but IMO taking off those mods and then expecting 3-4K more than you were offered before is nuts.

Take the bits off and you might get a higher price as your audience might have increased. Personally I can't see it and may end up costing you even more - paying for parts to be removed, attempting to sell said parts and then selling a car your probably going to say has never been modified.

Cars that have been "put back to standard" in their title I would ignore.

A car that has been modded well to me say it's been looked after by an enthusiast :)

As for the your question Princey, if you are finding it hard to sell then certainly it's an avenue to look down. How is the general market for second hand Astra VXR's at the moment?

I bet your itching to get shot so you can go buy a Monaro :D There's a new shaped one that parks opposite work. Sad as it is I know when he normally leaves and will go down for a ciggy just so I can hear the brrrraaap braaap! thunder of it's exhaust
