Do I really need a MBP when I have an 24" iMac?

Hey there.

So things didn't turn out great with my uni resits and I'm taking a 1 year leave of absence to get my head straight and the uni are going to let me resit the two exams I failed.

In the mean time I'll be working full time so I'll have a bit of spare cash about (seeing as I don't have to pay council tax).

I recently bought a 24" iMac, which I love. My first mac and I don't think I'll ever go back to windows (just using linux in VMWare for uni stuff).

I was thinking of getting a MBP for when I return to uni.

How heavy are they? I know the specs are on apple's site, but in real terms, can you carry them about easily. How resilient are they (especially to water)?

Also, do I really need one. The only thing I'd use a mac-notebook for is programming (in C for now) either by Xcode or by VMWare-ing linux, as well as light entertainment during boring lectures.

Will a macbook stand upto the challenge or should I be considering the MBP still?

Cheers lads. :)
