*OVERCLOCKED* AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz @ 3.80GHz / Asus Crosshair III Formula Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Bundle

will it be retail or oem I have this thing about keeping boxes LOL

Nope. It's OEM.

You'll get the RAM and CPU already on the mobo, which will be in it's original packaging.

I think it all depends really, as my Dad's bundle which was bought at the end of last year didn't come with the retail box or stock HSF..

It's probably to do with which batches of chips o/c the best, if they get a batch of OEM chips that are great clockers then it would make sense to use these in their bundles..

I'm probably wrong here, but that would explain why some folk get retail boxes and others didn't.

.

how do you know they are great clockers. each chip is different right? so are they all tested

Each chip is different, but they do follow trends. Different chips from the same batch will tend to behave similarly though this is by no means certain.

I believe in the case of ocuk they open a load and test them, e.g. if they won't do 4ghz easily but will do 3.8 then they're sold at 3.8. Speed binning, that's all. This would imply that if you want to overclock it yourself; buy a normal one at a time when ocuk are offering 4.2ghz bundles. Don't buy a 3.6ghz bundle as there's a risk the chip failed to run at 3.8 and is therefore below average. Of course this is just conjecture, if you're not the gambling type then buy from the highest ghz bundle on offer.

If you buy a chip outside of the overclocking bundles, it'll turn up sealed i.e. not previously tested.

How does the warranty work on these bundles? If OCUK are OC them, they are selling them at 4.0ghz, but what if they are unstable after a week at home, but run perfectly fine at stock or 3.8ghz?

Can you return them?

From what i gathered you call them and they go through bios changes with you to get it back stable that is their warranty if you touch the bios yourself their warranty is void and they will no longer help you maintain the overclock.

it says on the oc bundle pages

if you need to tweak BIOS oc settings do it under ocuk's advice through customer support thread. that way it's really them telling you what to do. my bundle wasn't stable when i got it home, so i got in touch with ocuk and we tweaked a couple of things. I'm sure that it still falls under their warranty as a result.

just an FYI too - my first bundle came with retail CPU including HS but it ended up being replaced and the replacement was OEM, so I lost a heatsink. i guess it varies from build to build.
