I'd like to ask what kind of habits people have when it comes to being equipped to take pics?

I have a Canon 40D, two lenses, flash, battey grip and a kit bag.

My habits are to leave everything in the bag and then take the kit to specific special events that i think will be good photo opportunities. This means the camera only gets used every 1 or 3 months.

I miss lots of daily opportunities because of my methods/habits.

Do people tend to always carry the basics with them, and then the full kit at special events. I need to be taking more pictures to get better.

What are other peoples habits?

I have a Canon 5D MKII as my main camera and carrying it everywhere is a bit out of the question, though I would like to.

Same as you I miss loads of photo opportunities as I don't keep a camera with me.

I think the new micro cameras such as the Olympus Pen, Panasonic GF1, and to an extent the Canon G11 & S90 are very interesting. Good quality cameras that are a small discreet size.

They would certainly encourage me to carry a camera everywhere and capture day to day life.

On a saturday I usually take my camera with 70 - 300 mm for the football, along with the nifty 50 and the kit lens in case I'm asked to take any photos for a cheque presentation. Other than that I take whats in my sig but alternate between the telephoto and macro depending on what I'm off to shoot. Will start taking my camera to work soon as the days get lighter so i can shoot stuff on the way home. Not much to see really though as I live 10 mins away from where i work :D

I own a Crumpler half photo messenger bag. So unless carrying a back-bag is impractical, my kit follows me where ever. Even when going to uni, I have my grip removed and lens swapped to the 25mm pancake. It's so small in my carry around sling bag, it's barely noticeable.

Part of the reason i ditched the D80 and all the gubbins and went for a GF1.
It can be carried everywhere i go nice and easily.
