Do you believe in prophecy?

No of course not as it implies we have a fate and predetermined history, which ofc is BS.

Now if i make up a prophecy saying a man in a blue hat walking his dog will one day lead the world to peace, it is possible and coincidental that this may happen between now and the end of the universe.

Depending of how aware you are of this hat prophecy it may well be manipulated to happen anyway.

Not really. It just means you can make a prediction as you know the variables, just like a science experiment, we know the outcome before we do the experiment. It doesn't mean fate, it just means we know the likely outcome.

Do you believe in prophecy?

Have you ever dreamt something that then happened the next day? How is this possible?

you have loads of dreams all the time and there are billions of peopel having dreams some will dream about stuff that will happen... and some will dream about exceptional events... I bet some people dreamt about planes flying into towers, and a few would have dreamt about planes flying into the twin towers...

Just to play Devil's advocate, if God exists then he knows everything that will happen in the future, so it's possible he could tell someone what will happen in the future (which wouldn't affect it, as he would know all future consequences of telling them.)

So if God exists, it could be possible that he reveals things to prophets.

As for what I actually believe - no, it's BS.

To accurately describe what's going on takes more knowledge of dreaming than I have but my understanding of it is that less than coincidence it's more pattern matching, you've had a fuzzy dream, think how little of your dreams you remember, or how few of the many dreams you have, and then you have something happen, maybe in the same situation, maybe involving the same people (although people are often something we attach post-dream), and your brain can piece together that's what happened in your dream.

It's like being given a good explanation for something that you don't recall while out drinking, you could be convinced (with sufficient proof/witnesses) that you'd done anything. You'll strive so hard to understand that the pieces you do genuinely remember might click together in the wrong order or with erroneous bits in the middle.

In short, no, you're not predicting anything, you're just imposing what you've experienced on a fuzzy dream you've had. Normally gives you deja vu.

I also have dreams of deja vu or coincidences at various parts of my life...i just put it down to coincidence really....i dont really believe in prophecies or the such like.

It is freaky when you dream something then a day or a few days later it sorts of comes true and you think WTF im sure i dreamt about this not too long ago.

It's when the 'coincidence' is uncanny that I'm convinced. And we've all had it. I don't buy into the pattern matching explanation abraham, I understand your point but it sounds like rationalisation to me.

Apparently, every single face that you see in a dream is a face you have seen in the real world. That doesn't mean close friends and people you know only, but faces your eyes have seen, at the shop one day, on holiday maybe just for a split second even if you did not consciously register it.

Every face is a face you have seen. And you will never see a face in a dream that you have not seen while awake.

I was told this is fact by my flatmate who is a psychology student and told this at uni.

if true that's quite cool.

Wow sorry, I went through your profile to compare recent posts to past ones (hey its 6:30am ok, im bored)

and didn't realise it was this old! haha.

well thats my oldest necro ever.

Most of my dreams are sureal in nature, but over the last few years I've been having the same recurring realistic double dream, where I dream that I'm in a 100% real place and am convinced while in the dream that everything is real. During the dream, I experience overwhelming vertigos with or without migraine, suffer greatly, and then dream that I am falling endlessly, or that I pass out unconscious / die, yet wake up again in my bed while still in the dream. On several occasions after waking up from this state fully, I experience full amnesia for 20-30 minutes with no memory of where I am, who I am, nor what is going on.

Then during my day to day life, I experience the exact same symptoms minus the passing out and amnesia.

Prophecy? Erm no, im simply having my balance disorder's symptoms in my sleep, and they get so over exagerated that brain tries to shut itself off completely to stop sensing it, hence the passing out and amnesia from the dreams, which has never been replicated in day to life.

As for any other prophecies or deja vu, I can't think of any of those things happenimg, and if they ever do for me or anyone else they are merely coincidence.
