Do you care how your card looks?

I don't have a sidewindow, but i'll admit - I want one. I'll have to find one of the few that are for the CM690 ( not re-casing ), or make my own.

How come though, manufacturers go to lengths to make the cards they make look good, if you google images " graphics cards " you'll find some stunners.

Why is it though, that the other side is normally fairly boring, a plan green chip.
When I look through the side window of my case, this is what I see:
( or something similar )
No hotlinking!

Is there a way to make these look good? I'm saving for a 69xx when they come out, and i'll be buying a side window.

I'm sure someone ( or a lot of people ) will say, uh.. why do you care?
Well, because like a lot of people on this forum I have spent a fortune on my PC, I work with it every day, it's on my desk next to me... I want it to look good, that's why we buy good cases ( aswel as airflow etc of course ).

Maybe they could come with some kind of top side aswel?
Just an idea, wanting to see peoples reactions / thoughts? maybe this exists already?

I buy my components (except my case) so that I don't have to see or hear them at all. So far as I'm concerned its a mystical box where data goes in and magic comes out :)

The more expensive cards sometimes have a backplate which makes them look neater. I think they make the coolers look fancy purely to entice people into buying them rather than expecting people to want a fashion statement on their desk.

You could add a gpu block, some hacksawed vrm sinks and... erm some tie wraps?

And turn your case upside down too.

Or just not buy a window?

I find my Hd4890 with Accelero twin turbo ugly, comparing to GTX260 in other pc, both with window, but not bothered too much

Not too fussed on what they look like as i dont have a windowed case. As long as they do their intended purpose im happy enough.

I agree with your comment, i got a windows on my case but i am not too fussed on the appearance, or how they look inside, if i did i would have got a skeleton case or a glass one and put it infront of my monitor. Reason for the window because i got it as a deal.......it like a car you dont take off the bonnet and expose the engine so everyone can see what size the engine is, you just happy that it works and get you from a to b

i used to be into the whole windowed case thing and buying components to look good, all with black pcb's etc, but i've grown far past that phase, use a silverstone fortress ft02 now with no window and some foam to drown out the noise of the coolers, as long as it works, i couldnt care less (though its not working atm)

Exactly, performance over looks any day :)

Still, i can appreciate why it would matter to other people though... if you're shelling out that kind of money for the hardware it's perfectly reasonable to expect your half a grand gfx card to 'look the part' as well :)

...bit like buying a fast sports car..sure it'll go 0-60 in under 5 seconds but would be disappointing if it didn't have metallic/pearlescent paint and/or leather interior etc etc.

I got a nice clear window on my case that sits on my desk so I prefer a decent looking card, bought the backplate for my 480 mainly for the looks rather than to gain lower temps 0_o

My case is the Antec Skeleton which for ventilation is great. When I was choosing a case I thought that it looked appealing in an interesting sort of way, something certainly very different. Normally I like a case to have a window with a little lighting though nothing too flashy. I am quite fussy though on the artistic pictures on the side on graphics cards. My HIS card is quite nice (imo), looks very similar to Diamond / Visiontek, almost identical in fact.

I take it raven that that backplate will only work on 480's by EVGA, wouldnt mind something like that for my 470's, i was also considering the EVGA high flow brackets.

That's a terrible block by the way. The internal diameter of the threaded part that screws into the block is only 3mm!! I got one for a 5770 i used to have and took it to bits to see what the inside was like and was horrified when i saw how restrictive the barbs were.

My case is completely open and I have a red PCB card atm, and it sticks out like a sore thumb as everything else is black. Don't care about the cooler as it'll be under water. When I upgrade it'll have to have a black pcb, but most do these days so shouldn't be a problem. :)
