So it's insured. Yet you said nope
He didn't specify phone specific ones.

I don't insure my phone though, I insure my home and contents. I don't have insurance for specific items or I'd be here all days listing the type of insurance I had.

Is my phone insured? Yes. Do I insure my phone? No.

I'm on Orange's "Panther" plan, starting about a year ago for a 2-year contract. That includes an SGS2 on sim card 1 (400 minutes, ∞ texts, 750MB data), and a 3G stick on sim card 2 (500MB data), covered under Orange Care. I pay £37/month all-in.

You've got to be a bit of a plum to not insure something so fragile and expensive

See as I see it you've got to be a 'plum' to throw your money away to robbing insurance companies for something that really doesn't cost that much to replace.

Standalone phone insurance is over priced to point of being beyond belief.

I've just very briefly looked around and the cheapest I found for my Note is £7.99 per month. That's £95.88 per annum and is laughable.

The handset cost me £399.99, so to insure I'd have to pay nearly 25% of the phones initial value per year.

In contrast I insure my house, contents and car for £462 per year and they have a combined value of about £162k which is less than 0.1% per annum.

So no, I dont have insurance and you be far better off sticking the insurance money into a savings account and using that to offset the cost of a replacement should you need it.

last 2 phones i have bought sim free but off forums

i can get it insured through my bank but they ask for proof of purchase in the event of a claim so would be stuffed anyway!

I could do it through my bank, but they only cover for 300 quid, and that wouldn't be enough.
Better than a kick in the teeth though, and since I lost my SG3, Im probably going to do it...

No. Even with my house insurance I don't check the accidental damage or things outside of the home bit as the excess on those claims makes it pointless for anything other than something worth quite a lot. The single item I own that is worth the most is my mountain bike but that's covered under house contents anyway as I checked. As for phones.... I never get phones worth silly amounts, always mid spec ones again for this very reason that I won't insure them. Insurance as said above, always stings you in some way. I have no faith in insurance.

Nope.

Managed the last 10 years without losing or breaking any phones. But I do know friends that have literally lost dozens over the years.

The only time I'd get cover is when I get my own place and use home insurance.
