Do you know anybody who had their car keyed?

What costs are involved in putting it right? Fully body respray? Insurance claim?

I dread this happening to my car when parked on city streets.

I've had a car keyed before. 2 weeks old, and the scum did it all the way down the left hand side. 3 panels including the door. The body shop that did the repair blended it well so it didn't have to have all the panels completely repainted but it was several hundred pounds worth of work. This was ~12 years ago.

Yeah, 50 com long over 2 door panels. Got Chipsway do fill and respray for around £100. You'd never be able to tell it had been resprayed. I suspected who had done it but there was no point filing a crime without evidence or doing it through insurance.

My old XF a while back, cost £800 to paint both doors and blend in

That picture made me wince...

Never had mine done. Or if I have, my car was too much of a piece of **** to have noticed :D

My mum got her car keyed last year when she was out working. She's a social worker and they had a job to remove a kid from a home (addict parents). Came back to her car and someone had run a key from the headlight to the tail light. She's still not got it fixed though as she thinks 'what's the point, it might happen again'. If she could afford to run two cars (or was into cars), I'd say buy a banger for work so it doesn't matter if it gets keyed. Just looks nasty on her main vehicle.

£800 ? :o

I had the 2 panels and a blend done for £350 and they did an amazing job

oh and this included removing 3 small dents, respraying a small trim on bumper and respraying the small panel above windscreen because of a stone chip

Yep, my Renault Clio. Looked new and shiny when I bought it back then and got keyed the first week of owning it. Pointless owning something nice and new in London when you're going to park it on the street. Low class have-nothing brainless gutter scum would just **** it up.

I know, but I got 4 quotes. One was from a Jag dealer which was ridiculous something like £1300, a Jag indy which was £800, a spray shop which did my old Nissan charged £725 and a local shop which I thought looked dodgy £500. I just went with the indy. Oh well I will chalk it up to experience.

When I was about 8, some woman with the same model car stole a couple of grand from the golf club.

Two weeks later my parents car had 'golf' keyed into the door panels.

Twonk

Type R was keyed but luckily very light and came out with scratch X. My prius had been keyed already on the back door when I bought it but its a very light colour so never bothered me to get it redone.
