I was wondering do people find they prefer one of "Realistic" or Fantasy/Sci-fi over the other when gaming.

There is bunch of us at work, two of us have a PS3 and the other two have a 360.

The other 3 really like Call of Duty 4, but I think having someone with a stupid accent telling you to run about everywhere is annoying and boring.

On the other hand I really liked Resistance and Resistance 2, the other guy with a PS3 bought Resistance at launch and hasn't completed it and has no inclination to. The two guys with 360s both hate Halo 3. Now I haven't played Halo 3 but enjoyed the first two.

Some one at work was selling Bioshock on the 360 so I told one of the guys he should get it. Once I mentioned the Plasmids he said he doesn't like spells and magic.

Is this just us at work or do people a favourite genre.

well, i didnt like resistance because it was boring. Nothign to do with who or what i was shooting. in fact i dont care if i enjoy the game - its really not important to me if its an alien or whatever.

I like to kill people because I feed off the despair of their loved ones.

Brb, some guys in suits at the door...

What sort of question is this?

No one can answer this without sounding like a nut case. lol.

Well some people prefer general fiction books over sci-fi/fantasy. The same could be said of films. Why should having a preference of game make you a nut case.

definitely prefer to kill humans without question.

examples...

hl1 --- you are fighting zombies and headcrabs then all of a sudden the marines come in and take the game to a new level.

hl2 --- shooting the combine police vs shooting the zombies(even tho ravenholme was quite cool it was more horror than anything).

rtcw --- locked in those broken chambers with silly zombies/mummies/ghosts or fighting the badass paratroopers.

Then your question should be, "Do you like Science Fiction or Realistic games?

Asking people if they like to shoot People or Aliens can only lead to bad things. :D

Fair enough, although the thread title was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, you'll will see my post was phrased similar to how you suggest.

Anyway I hate alien shooters. Even if they closely resemble a man shape. They need to look like a believable man with a family and future plans in order for me to enjoy taking away his virtual life in all manner of painful ways.

I am indiscriminate where it comes to what I kill. You make a shooter with cute kittens trying to kill me and I'll slaughter them with glee. That it bleeds and looks to feel pain is all that truly matters to me.

It' one of my gripes with the batman game, that you can't choose to kill, rather than render unconcious - I know, I know, Batman doesn't kill... big baby.

And who's to say aliens don't have family and future plans, with dreams and aspirations?

People.

Don't treat a game the same way if it's aliens. For example, I really liked the look of Crysis until the big monster thing came about.
