Do you reckon you can 'reset' your view of graphics?

i dont know about graphics, But the best way for my to appreciate the size of a 24" screen is to see my parents for a week, and be stuck with 11" netbooks, side to side scrolling never mind up and down. when i come home its like using cinema screens :P

I think graphics are relative tbh, and your perception changes with time.

I think whatever is most most technically impressive and current standard will alwasy look the norm, and look fantastic. However, as soon as a new benchmark is set they kind of look mediocre and you do what will now be technical shortfalls.

That being said, games that rely more on artistic direction than technical ability look good regardless of the time you play them. I think thats the holy grail of visual design imo.

Um no, your memory is a wonderful thing.

You dont watch the same movie everyday, after watching it once or a few times, you dont watch it again for a while because.....wait for it.....you remember it!

Unless of course, you suffer from reoccuring memory loss like goldfish, then yes, your idea would work.

I'd rather get back into 100FPS land on source-like graphics than having Crysis 4 chugging along at 25-30fps on most systems

yea most graphics 20 years ago were realistic to us at the time.

looking back wow they are a blocky mess with horrible low res textures.

I don't think I ever thought graphics were realistic 20 years ago and to the topic, I don't think graphics look "bad" or as someone put it, "rubbish", we (some of us) grew up with a lot of these and they are what they are.

You'll find a lot of new gamers/younger gen who base stuff purely on looks, but not all though!

You had bad looking games 20 years ago compared to others of the time, you have bad ones now, although I find it very, very hard to say something looks bad since I've been playing since the late 80s, it's more a case of I hate the gameplay ;)

All depends on how you view graphics, yes they are nice. But take a game like Fez on the 360... One of my faves this year so far. And it's hardly Crysis looking lol.

I got Return to Castle Wolfenstein in the steam sale the other day, and it really doesnt bother me that the graphics are somewhat dated...gameplay over graphics anyday :)

As i have gotten older i have started to appreciate the art direction in games rather than obsessing over raw graphic realism that most people crave. :p

Hmm. I don't think you can find old graphics better than they are, but there are more people out there playing WoW than CoD, so obviously graphics aren't that important...

I can do it quite easily. I play a lot of Quake Live, but when I load up BF3 for a quick go I am blown away by the graphics everytime, same with Skyrim as I only play that game like once a month.

I feel pretty similar, but about story and detail. Deux Ex is still so good even with the odd glitch :)

I'm playing Dungeon Siege 1 @ 1200x800 and it doesn't look that great, but I'm twelve hours in so it must be doing something for me. 'Tis getting hopelessly difficult now though. :( Also, I always run Mount and Blade at something daft like 1280x1024 as the FOV is much more agreeable to me at that setting. It looks laughable, but the game play carries me through.

If I was to play seriously old PC titles on my current rig, then things would probably go sour quite fast. However, give me an ol' 486 with some decrepit CRT monitor and I suspect I'd get sucked back in quite quickly.

You'd have to completely downgrade your entire experience though.

So, Phone, tablet, TV, DVDs etc... You'd have to watch videos and all sorts for it to work I think....

It depends on the type of game you're playing, say you played Team Fortress 2, the graphics are designed in such a way that they still look amazing, despite the fact the textures are plain and the polygon count is stupidly low.

I remember how awesome playing San Andrea's was, I remember the graphics being awesome, come to play it today and I have no idea how I thought they were good - Result> It's just what you're used to.

No, but I'm not much of a graphics buff.

I regularly play old games including UT, Diablo 2 and MOHAA. Never been much of a good graphics = good game sort of person.
