Do you replace the TIM on brand new GFX card's?

So Nvidia and AMD don't know what they're doing?

But some one at home with a tube of TIM does? :D

I don't understand why some people feel the irresistible urge to mess with things they don't need to.

Sure, if you lapped both and used something better you could get the temps down. But, AMD and Nvidia have already made sure they are acceptable by putting in the homework.

Part of fixing Fermi was using that new paste that sets. That, a vapour chamber and more expensive low leakage transistors.

:D of course they do, they will know to the hundredth of a penny what every part costs, the problem is cost is the overriding factor and time is factored into cost, so not only is the stuff going to be cheap it's not going to be applied by someone that even understands what it does !

EVGA stands out as a company because it is more enthusiast driven and where they can, they try to improve the cards with things like "High flow ! brackets etc...and openly allow coolers to be removed/changed, the rest would not have a clue if someone carefully removed & refitted the cooler !

Just face it, man. The only reason people do things like that is because they have serious OCD issues and can't help but mess with things.

Fact is that Nvidia's design is perfectly acceptable and the card operates within acceptable temperature limits through design.

Taking it apart and risking it and then applying some super super TIM is mostly a waste of time, as the 5c MAX you will achieve won't help. At all.

As I said, cost saving or whatever you look at it as the bottom line is the TIM they apply works perfectly well and doesn't NEED changing.

You don't have a clue do you ?

Every 10 degrees centigrade you reduce electronic components temp is supposed to extend it's life 100% !

The thing is, EVGA have a standard 3 year warranty like most companies these days, and if you pay you can get a 10 year warranty. Why would you need to extend it's life more than that, when you probably won't keep the graphics card longer than 3 years.

5 degrees is a huge difference!

But the people doing t for <2 gains have OCD! The TIM is fine, but if you are bored, know what youre doing and have some super TIM lying around, then you may aswell go for a 5 deg drop in temps!

Maybe it is getting more "old school" to understand and optimise everything possible, Nowadays you require virtually zero electronics knowledge to put a PC together.

Much the same as cars really, when you see nippers thrashing cold engines, unaware of the unnecessary wear and tear it causes !

Back to the warranty point...ever notice things don't break until the first week after the warranty ends :D
