Do you think some smelly people actually don't release that they smell?

The human body is VERY good at getting used to things, such as adapting to changes in temperature or altitude.

For the most part yes, they simply won't notice because their brain isn't alerting them to something unusual.

A quick example would be getting your mate to swap hoodies/jackets, you'll notice a very distinct smell, you're both simply used to that particular smell so your brain doesn't register it as unusual.

To be honest though with BO this would take a while and isn't a matter of a few days, if someone smells they have probably either smelt bad for a long time or have some sort of medical issue.

That's disgusting

My brother and another lad shared a room with him. He used to fap under the covers while they were in the room. He once chundered down the back of the radiator and refused to clean it up, his defence being "We're students, this is what we do."

He never went to any lectures, so he only lasted a term before he got thrown out.

Back in the late 80s I was working at the Creda factory with a bloke called Malc who was a great bloke but apparently smelled.
I say apparently because I couldn't smell him even though I worked next to him for over a year.
Workers 30 foot up the assembly line were moaning about him and eventually the Manager told him that the Sister wanted to see him in the Surgery.
She told him the problem, gave him some advice and that night he went home and killed himself.

RIP Malc.

The women who work at my local Newsagents will actively spray any smelly people down with cans of air-fresheners they keep behind the counter, first time I saw it happen I couldn't believe it! And one of the women told me that in the Summer when it's warmer they can go through 10 cans a day there! :D Bold as ****ing brass they are! Hahah

That is epic!

I was in TKmaxx once ... you can smell him from a good 3/4 metres away.
'nuff said :p.

People with personal hygiene issues really bug me as it demonstrates a remarkable lack of self-respect and respect for those around you. Sadly I come across it all too often in my line of work.

I can also say that size isn't really an issue other than you tend to go downhill in the grooming stakes much quicker if you don't make an effort. I am more than a little portly but make sure that I am never in that situation. Also lends itself well to explaining to my clients that if I can do it, so the hell can they.

Really ****** me off.

Working next to dmpoole for a year or being told to buy some soap and deodorant, makes you wonder what pushed him over the edge TBH.

There's this kid I go to College with and he has had the same clothes on since we started (September) and he stinks the whole place out. And when it's a warm day you can smell him the other side of the class, it's disgusting.

He in general is a mess but c'mon you don't where the same clothes since the start of the year

Lived with a guy in my final year of uni who had a really nasty smell about him. He was a bit on the obese side. If his bedroom door was open, the smell would hit you like a brick, unfortunately you had to walk past to get to the kitchen.

What made it that much stranger is, nobody else around him said anything about it, whether they had just got used to it and chose to ignore it, or didn't want to bring up the subkect and offend, ill never know.

But yeah i think you can get used to smells without realising it's nasty.

bit of both tbh, I mean some peopel smell a lot more than others, When i smell myself i'm not sure how bad it smells, some of my friends would say not a lot, but some like my sister would generally say YES, but then she works in a hospital and smells disinfectant and sterile envirnoment for most of the day. so it would depend on how heightened and tolerant your sense of smell is.

But yes the occasional person i do get a wiff of and think **** me how can they not smell that.

I notice that a lot of Pakistani people don't seem to notice or care, they have terrible body odour.

zOMG racist!

:p Probably the remnants of cooking after spending some hours in and around the cooking areas of their homes, After a while you don't notice it so get used to it. I notice it all the time when visiting people's houses or give someone a lift in my car as I keep my home and car as odour neutral as possible so the strong smell of curry or whatever else and hard hitting.

I know someone who has a coat that smells like it wasn't left to dry properly after the wash so has that smell to it and it is annoying a lot of the time. I might just go round there and dry clean the thing myself because my advice isn't going in to their mind :p

Nothing beats the foul odours of a smoker though, thankfully nobody in my family smokes but I know people who do and when they return from what I've dubbed their "7 minute break" the stink is foul. I feel I have trouble inhaling air when walking behind someone who is smoking in public as well.

Really am not a fan of cigarette smoke although a pipe smoker's smoke is quite relaxing o.0 Has a minty zing to it....

He was a brilliant and very clever bloke who I used to seek out on the factory just to talk to because 99% of the 4000 workers didn't have an education and could only talk about beer or horses.
He knew a lot about everything and it was like talking to TWFox all day.
A few years later my Manager said "Hey ****, you get on with that Malc don't you? I'm going to put him with you" and we were both made made up.
When I think about it we were only together about 2 months when all the selfish gits started to moan about him however because of my smell senses I couldn't appreciate what they were going through either.

There was another woman on there called Big Val who showered/bathed twice a day, used loads of deodorant and I could smell her so it must have been bad for others.

I had another mate called Steve who changed his socks once every hour.
He used to ask those around him when he started to smell and then he'd change.

Yeah I noticed this. i worked at a university, and our building had offices for all the lecturers. And 1 office in particular used to really smell of curry. Its obvious why, You sweat out your pores what you eat!

A womans office stank like mint all the time, because she constantly chomped them lol.

Smokers are the worst for smell. I was standing behind this kid in the line at the Co-op and my word, everytime he opened his mouth it smelt horrific. He brought his stuff and left and the smell lingered where he had been for a good while and I could feel it in my throat.

Horrible.

And you didn't top yourself? ;)

some people are genuinely anosmic.....sat next to a great guy for years who had a serious problem and he was oblivious... when told about it, he was mortified andimproved dramatically but I had to wonder why his wife had never mentioned it!!!
