Does a USB powered enclosure have enough juice for a 1TB HD. I would use the eSATA connection to actually transfer the data

Am looking at getting this 1TB WD HD,
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-246-WD

and putting it in this Akasa USB powered enclosure.

Or would it be best to play safe and get an get an external powered enclosure, like this....

Thanks

I just looked at the Akasa website. You are right, it does use a power adapter..

Either I am mis-reading the OcUK page or it is an error.

Thanks for pointing it out.

USB power isn't enough to drive a 3.5" hard drive so pretty much all enclosures for this size of hard drive should come with it's own mains power adaptor.

They do a 2.5" version of that same enclosure so it looks like the description may be cut and paste from that so wrong.

Box Contains
élite enclosure
Multi-language installation manual
USB data cable
ESATA data cable
Power Adapter 100-240V AC to 5V, 12V DC (2A)
HDD mounting screws
Footstand

So yes it's adaptor powered. eSata doesn't have enough power through the data cable for an HD anyway so it has to have additional power.
