I have my onboard LAN disabled and I have a Netgear wg311v card installed.

In the Network Connections part of Windows XP an icon sometimes appears under the title 'Internet Gateway', and then an icon appears next to the wireless icon on my taskbar near the clock. Most of the time this doesn't appear and all works okay, but sometimes it does appear and curious to know how to stop it happening and what it actually is?

Obviously, I just thought all that should appear is one icon and that's the wireless thing. :/

I click on the icon on the taskbar and it says 'Internet Connection' in a new window and all seems very strange.

Help?

i think this is something to do with upnp on your router? anyway to stop it, goto add/remove programs, then windows components, look at networking services (or something similar - i'm doing this from memory as i'm on vista :p). now i can't remember the name of the next option - but it should be the only one that is ticked - untick it. you will be prompted to reboot when done. :)

yes its to do with upnp, pretty useful for adding port forwards with no need to mess with the routers web interface or reboot the router.
