Does anyone here still use a single core pc?

My desktop is a single core AMD Athlon 64 3500+. I'm going to upgrade to Sandy Bridge but I kinda want to see how long my AMD can last.

I did see a video today on youtube of someone still using an on P3 CPU who is wanting to upgrade to SB though. Gotta credit the guy for keeping the hardware for so long.

Luckily I am about to build (or get somebody to do it for me) a Sandy Bridge PC. MY PC died last year. Due to lack of money I had to then start using my dads old PC. I am currently using a PC with an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ single core processor running at 1.8 GHz, 512 MB ram, onboard sound and graphics.

Do you think I will notice any difference in speed when I get my new Sandy Bridge PC lol?

Messed about with a Pentium M Dothan 2Ghz, P4P deluxe and CT479 this weekend, managed 3Ghz on 1.85v on 1hr prime before she popped :D Don't think cooling was the issue as it was a XP120 and decent Sycthe fan, temps were about 55C loaded. Have a few more 760s to play with :D

My main PC at home is a pentium D which technically is single core with HT.
boot time ~5mins but after that is quite ok. My atom netbook boots faster with windows 7 tho.

Yes...we have an ANCIENT computer running as the main system downstairs. I would upgrade it but I have my hex core in my office and that's all I need.

I believe it's an AMD Athlon XP 1.8GHz processor. Ouch.

I haven't used a single core cpu in about 4 years... Think that was an 2.2GHz Athlon 64 on a socket 754 board... from then I went upto an Athlon 64 x2 5200+ 2.7GHz on s939 - then up to my current rig :)

haha yeah i do and have done for years, last time i spent on comp parts was when my old agp vid card packed up and i had a job finding another lol.

xp2500 barton cpu been running for years 24/7,i sometimes stick the hoover in my case(while it's still on lol) and get the dust out that usually helps keep temps lower lol.
It was cutting edge when i bought it but must admit it's really struggling now,
When ever I play dod source I just ignore the occasional freezes and just think to myself if my wallet wasn't bottlenecked i'd have killed them!!!.

Now intel has caught me up with the release of the sb"2500"k i might upgrade my old xp"2500" lol.2500 seems to be my trigger to spend.

Looking at the prices these days for modern tech i probably blew more back in the day on this system.

Plenty of pentium 4's where I work. XP, MS Office and a bit of light browsing... With 1 GB + RAM they're fine for that stuff.

My phone has a single core...

Haha :D!

No single cores here, although I thought the netbook I suggested to my mum was a single core atom, but task manager shows it had two . Do shops still sell single core PCs or have dual core became the new low end?

My work pc on the other hand is a quad core, it makes me happy going to work.
