When they were taken over by First Capital Connect I initially thought we would get new trains, with better leg room etc but they have said thats not going to happen, but at least they have been cleaned which is an improvement, only other thing I have noticed is loads of ticket inspectors who love waking you up to show your ticket. I travel and hour on the train, and granted get a seat before they are all exhausted a couple of stations down the line, but the seats are so cramped. I have to sit either squashed to the window, or half on the seat adjacent to the aisle because the person who sits next to you does not have enough enough room to fill just their seat. Leg room is non existant, and bordering on illegal.

Anyway I pay £260 a month for the privilege on which trains get randomly delayed or cancelled, which you just have to wait for the next train which in some cases can be upto 1/2 and hour last thing you want after work with a hour and half commute

My beef, is I think that service charges should be gaged on their performance comfort etc, because if I get a bus to Kings Cross 20mins, I can then get a Midland Mainline train which charge the same as Thameslink, 1 stop with a change back to Thameslink for one station but on trains which are new, quick, airconditioned with big comfortable seats & a bar.

I think its time more people just did not pay for a shoddy service in protest until things change? I have challenged the people who sell tickets regarding discount for poor performance which Thamelink use to do, but now even this has been dropped, so they can just cancel a train and basically give you two fingers as well.

When I visit my girlfriend in Surrey, I need to get: Midland Mainline, these trains rock, have plug sockets for mobiles and laptops, as you said, air con, plenty of leg room. Then I have to get a First Capital Connect from Luton to East Croydon, Im on this train for around 1hr 20mins, when the train gets packed, it is as you said a nightmare! there is enough leg room providing no one gets on and sits infront of you!

I pay £45 a time to go to Surrey *return*, but even so, I did expect trains like the Midland Mainline all the way to hers. :(

If you are going to protest dont do it on friday ;) :D

Edit: I have to get a southern service after that, also nice trains air con plenty of leg room. :)
