Does pretty much everyone upgrade their motor when they hit 25?

I'm certainly glad I didn't listen to the older generation and wait until I was 21 before I bought my first performance car. The widely believed drop doesn't happen there (in fact for some reason my insurance quotes seem to have doubled between turning 19 to 21 on the same sort of cars :D) and I doubt it happens at 25 either.

The only thing I have to look forward to insurance wise is 23 when I can get a trade policy... That is if they haven't raised the age until 25 by then

For some reason mine dropped a great deal at 20, I'm in the same boat as you and not waiting :D

Ouch, how old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm on around £1.3K for GTI and £1.4k for an R32.

Still yet to make my mind up if to go ahead, stick with my current car or try something non VAG.

20 but 21 in the summer. Still prices were stupid for GTI/R32...TT was about the same. For me I could get insured 12 months on Polo GTI/A1 for £1200. ;)

And thats after moving from a F postcode to a B postcode. :(

Ah ok, same age as me then

My 2008 Polo GTI has gone down to £800 this year

Had a manual is200 (2000 plate so old one) now for 3 months and its on 104k miles, done 4k of it so far including driving to germany a month ago.

On a long run I have managed to get 28mpg highest, I drive around 80mph so nothing over the top. Average with mixed driving is 25mpg.

It does feel underpowered as you have to rev the **** off of it to get anywhere, power comes in around 4.2k rpm. Its only 150bhp.

The interior is half suede/half leather (I like it), its comfortable, has climate control, heated electric seats, auto headlights, traction control, all of which work 100% perfectly which cannot be said for all 12 year old cars. Reliability I guess I will see over time but supposedly excellent. It is extremely quiet, at idle you cannot hear it, the straight 6 engine also sounds good.

I like the car, it was a cheap replacement when my Galant was no longer worth keeping on the road. I do want something more exciting though, which I'll look into in time. Not suggesting you buy the same, just saying that despite the poor economy you could do a lot worse.

all that happens at 21-25-30 that gives the illusion of cheaper deals is more insurance companies are willing to take the risk with you. In some cases this means in higher performance cars also. Due to more providers being available, the chance for cheaper premiums increase.

Probably the best way to explain it.
