Hi, I've been shopping around for a cheap laptop for the past week or so and have came across this in a large supermarket (don't want to mention their names as they are probably a competitor).

It is an Acer TravelMate 2423WXMi:

# Intel Celeron-M 370 Processor 1.5GHz
# 256MB DDRII SDRAM
# 40GB fast Hard Drive
# DVD Dual Layer Drive - Writes and reads both CDs and DVDs
# 14.1" XGA Bright Widescreen TFT
# 2.5-hour Battery Life
# Only 2.5 Kgs!
# Intel GMA 900 Fast Graphics
# 3xUSB 2.0, Integrated LAN and 56k v.90 data fax modem
# Integrated Wireless 802.11 b/g
# Microsoft Windows XP Home
# 1 year warranty

For only £399.00 but i'll only have to pay £360.00 due to staff discount.

Does this seem like good value? I really just want something to take to uni next year and browse the internet at home. It looks very small and light which is exactly what i'm after but I really don't know much about laptops.

There is only one left in the shop so if i'm going to get it i'll have to be quick.

Thanks

Matt

It's a Celery though

Not bad I guess but this is available for £384. That Intel GMA is probably faster GFX, but Sempron is faster than Celeron afaik. Bigger screen too.

AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHz
256MB DDR SDRAM (2GB Maximum)- Low cost double memory offer – call for details!
40GB Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs
15" XGA TFT Screen
SiSM760GX Graphics

What do you mean "Only 2.5kg"? That sounds quite a bit for a laptop to me? But maybe im wrong?

It's not much. My Dell 630m weighs a touch less (same size display) and it's not heavy at all.

Looks like a good price for the spec. Would definitely add another 256MB of RAM to it though (at least) - 256MB is going to be quite slow, even for general Windows usage.

I just went over to get it when the last one had sold :(.

I'm going away tomorrow for a week and i'll definately be ordering a new one when I come home so if anyone wants to suggest any specific makes and models around the £360 mark it would be much appreciated.
