Does your credit history matter when you're looking to rent a place?

So I've finally decided to get my act together and move out in a few months time. Problem is I've had a bit of a shady past financially speaking. Nothing major at all, but a past history of pay day loans and one or two missed payments on certain finance things here and there are worrying me somewhat...

I'm very lucky in that my parents are going to be stepping in as guarantors which should help things a lot but my question is, do landlords take a deep look into your financial history to see how secure it is to rent to you? Or am I worrying too much?

Yep you'll be checked and your detail will be sent to the landlord. Personally I wouldn't accept you on your own, but with a guarantor you will have no issues at all. :)

If have guarantors and your parents have a good credit history I wouldn't think you'd have much of an issue.

It also depends how far back your issues were, anything more than a couple of years and you could find landlords more forgiving.
