Dog threw itself at my car

Im not too well up on the Fiesta ST, but they feel like a solid car to drive.

Either the dog was a brick house :p

You were exceeding any speed limit?

Or the build quality isn't as good as I thought as that's a fair bit of damage

But anyway that's unlucky.

Yeah I'm not saying you did anything wrong or that you shouldn't claim back your expenses. It's more the cavalier attitude you have towards the animal that annoys me (can't speak for any of the other dog lovers here). A dog is a living breathing thing, your bumper is not. A little acknowledgement of that would have gone a long way.

60mph and a huge bang. It was a big lump of a dog for sure. There is a bumper reinforcement bar just about where it was hit so it wouldn't have been pretty.

just a tad eh...

maybe reread your OP and consider how it comes across. you just killed what was someones pet and your moaning how it cracked your bumper. nice one...

I read it and I side with the OP...and I love dogs!

If the owner cared enough they'd have logged a missing dog call with the police or the council and and neighbours, so if/when the animal is found they could be contacted. As it happens they haven't and the dog has unavoidably (in terms of it walking out in front of the car, could have been avoided if the dog was looked after properly) damaged somebody's vehicle.

Being at night and in the middle of nowhere suggests that at least neighbours would have been contacted about the dog, but nobody knew about it according to the OP. Seriously, grow up, at the end of the day, it's just a dog and it wasn't yours (as is the car, just a car).

Plus there could be a family with children that could be really upset. Hope the OP never runs over a person. I am sure it would be "all their fault".

to put it into prospective for the lulzanimalz hard men... pets can, and are, like one of the family. this can be seen by some, as akin to hitting a small child by the side of the road, going to the parents house and asking for some compensation for the hairline crack their child just put in your bumper.

just warning you, i certainly wouldnt want to be the one knocking on that door...

the reality is your not going to get anything from this, even if you did know the identity of the owner.

If the OP ran over a person no one would care because the dog would be safe. ;)

tru dat ;)

Exactly the same can be said about the OP.

What?

The OP isn't being a complete buffoon, he is asking about which route to fix his car is best, pay himself or go through insurance and at how much of a ballache this situation is for him. You lot of dog lovers (in a bad way, as I said I love dogs but I'm not foolish enough to go 'omg the poor wwittle doggie and it's famileeeeee') then spun the story around and have made him seem like a child killing rapist.

Whut? Children are different from dogs in terms of responsibility when an accident occurs, as has already been stated. As previously said too, I love dogs and if mine were to damage someone's car then I'd be gutted, sure, but it'd still be my responsibility.

Heartless thread

Dogs are animals at the end of the day and in my eyes have as much right as you or I, if you hit a person would you still be complaining of the cost of the bumper without showing any respect for the animal? Its not the dogs fault that "maybe" the owners are irresponsible

feel sorry for the dogs owners loosing a pet is never easy

BUT the OP should pursue the police to get the chip details and in turn instruct his insurance company to follow it up.

He's not responsible for the dog owner being irresponsible and allowing their pet to run about the road be it by accident or not.

The OP is now going to be out of pocket when he shouldnt be. tis the dog owners responsibility to foot the bill here and his insurance company should chase them for the losses incurred

Well that's your opinion, but the legal one is very different.

Exactly!

Im just saying the OP opened a thread and didn't even blink at the fact that he ran over a dog?

No, that's the way you took it. I read it that the OP was bothered about it as killing animals is never actually that nice. The fact the OP has then expanded on it and said he really isn't an animal lover does sway towards him being less bothered about the dog, but he could be, you can't take anything posted on the net as black and white as so many people seem to.
