Dominican republic - hotel recommendations?

I'm planning on going to the Dominican Republic for a week or so at the end of this month , just wondering if anyone has been there and any hotels to recommend?

Spent 2 weeks at a holiday resort on the northern coast so not really got any recommendations, except that it is an excellent place for holidaying and the locals are brilliant! Just dont drink any tap water

Ive done 2 weeks in the south coast, Breezes, all inclusive, very good value and roasting hot.

We stayed at the Gran Ventana for 2 weeks a few years back and it was fantastic.

Food was great (all inclusive), with chinese, italian, grill and ala carte restaurants. Pool was also great with a pool bar where you basically sat on a bar stool sub merged in the water and had free drinks.

Weather was very hot as well, so can't complain.

The Gran Ventana has an excellent range of dining options.
For a relaxing break, Sunscape The Beach is very luxurious and hard to beat.

If you want a hotel that's a bit more lively try the RIU Bambu - I'm a big fan of RIU's work ethic and couldn't fault the hotel in general.

Our family has been 3 or 4 times now and the best we found was the Gran Ventana

I'll probably end up going there this year
