christ im shattered!!!!

long long days grind today, lots of blood spilt and swear words yelled! basically I did the following

1) removed rear calipers
2) removed rear discs (involved 2 hours fo fighting with the handbreak tensioner!)
3) installed 297mm grooved discs
4) installed 2 pot calipers from a bugeye (replaced one pot floating caliper affair)
5) installed braided hoses all round
6) flushed and primed the brake system with some nice new dot4 gubbins
7) replaced side lights with some ultraLED's
8) ripped out crappy aftermarket setup and fitted the real mccoy
9) installed SX fuel reg and aeroquip hoses
10) drained engine oil
11) replaced oil with motul 300v 15/50
12) whilst installing a new oil filter

basically my rear brakes were FUBAR (thats german) and the discs scored so badly I was getting through a set off pads within 100 miles!! the new setup is so so so much nicer I already have 6 pots at the front and these new jobbies at the rear make a load of difference and compliment the 6's much better.

costs
conversion kit - £125
discs - £150
calipers - £160
oil - £61
SX reg - £169
aeroquip hoses - too much to mention
pads - £41
HID kit £499
side bulb £3.99 :p

here are a few piccies ill get some better ones tomorrow

you have no idea how much it helps to log into your own account when your round at the GF's : /

GF? whats that  :p

thought id treat the old girl, she might get jealous - 996 cabs tomorrow :D

I know what you mean with the scored discs, mine were terribly worn, and i didnt even bother to check them that much and just wacked on a set of new pads, about 5 weeks later and lots of crappy weather i thought it would be best to clean the grime of the car and wheels,or that was the plan anyway.

Turned out all the black crud on the wheels was actually bits of the brake pad which had been ground up by the knackered disc and these bits had actually welded theirselves to the wheel, couldnt clean any of it off, i was selling the car anyway so i just left it that, i always assumed rear discs werent that important in the whole scheme of things, bit silly really i suppose it all helps when the cars a big heavy v6 mondy.

297mm? Pah I *spit* on that with my 300mm 4-pot Brembo's on a car weighing 1050kgs :D (breaaaath, in-out, in-out)

Seriously though m8, some quality work done there

Will,

Wouldn't shifting the plate(nice choice) help the air flow into (what looks to me to be) the front mounted intercooler?

yeah i could mount it on the lower lip, but its all much of a muchness, the FMIC reduces temps so much anyway compared to the heatsoaked TMIC

Why are you comparing your front setup to Wills rear? I hope your not spitting on his rear with your 12" 4 potter

Good work.

How much of a difference do you think the rear brakes have made. Sometimes get conflicting messages that rears aren't worth the upgrade and others say its a good mod.

Know what you mean with the handbrake wheel - fiddly little blighter!
