dont know if its worth it or not, a little help please?

The shop is offeringe 162 trade in, but i really dont want to pay the extra 160 quid for the 7970, would be great if i could but i just cant do it, i would happily pay the 20 for the 6950 and oc to 6970 speeds

For the last time...6950 and 6970 are SLOWER...YES SLOWER! than your GTX480. If noise is an issue, just do what other suggested get a 3rd party cooler for your GTX480.

To be honest, trading in a GTX480 plus only £160 extra for a 7970 is a GOOD deal. The GTX480 only worth less than £120 2nd hand now, not the £162 trade in value the shop offer you...and £322 for a 7970 is not bad at all, considering the £50 the shop offer you above its value.

that shop I think were all familiar with but sometimes there a hit and miss with there prices. Best to check gumtree/flebay just in case u can get more sometimes.

Did you even test out the Afterburner Cap for noise/temps?

It's totally free to try, there is nothing to loose.

Looking like the purchase justification hasn't worked out for you as we are all advising you to keep what you have.;)

I wouldn't go that far, faster than a stock 6950, yes but I would say 6 and half a dozen with the 480 and the 570 imo.

I think the OP is reading this thread with blinkers on. Why ask advice and choose to ignore it? We are not allowed to discuss prices outside the members market so please don't ask.

Rite guys, ive decided to save my pennys and get either a 7970 or a gtx670, im looking into multi screen aswell, will eyefinity be the better choice? Or nvidia surround the way to go? Pros and cons for both please

GTX570 was faster than 6970 (at 1920 res), and GTX480 basically a GTX570 wth more vram performance wise...so I'm not sure what's to dispute there

You could argue that 6970 is "faster" due to doing better at higher res, but fact remains 90% of the gaming population game only on 1920 res or below.

Though the OP just mentioned in the post before yours that he is considering multi-screen gaming - thuse, the 6970 higher res performance is very relevant.

beasty, there are pros and cons with both Eyefinity and Nvidia Surround. For some Nvidia cards, you cant go triple screen unless you have SLI. I know 680 can do it with one card, not sure about 670.

NVidia has the advantage of bezel peak (if you use bezel compensation, it sometimes hides dialogs behind the bezels, and bezel peak allows you to show it - eyefinity doesn't have a similar feature yet).
Overall though, Eyefinity is the more mature triple screen solution. You don't have to connect the monitors to specific ports, and you have a lot of flexibility in how to switch between screens (it's very easy to set up a hot key to switch between various eyefinity resolutions and setups, and back to extended mode for normal windows use).
