Don't see many cars with Factory fitted sunroofs

Air condition cools / heats the air with a refrigerant.

Climate control, controls the air conditioning to an exact temperature in degrees, and will constantly adapt the cooling / heating process to maintain the temp.

Climate control often comes with a dual zone feature allowing the passenger and driver to have different temperature settings.

Normal manual air conditioning is just always on at the setting you set based on the temp / fan speed.
Much thanks POB :)

I thought it was something like that...I Just wasn't 100% sure with me never owning a car before that had Air Conditioning or Climate Control

I know it depends on the system but I hate Climate control, I don't appreciate the process it uses to get there.

For example it might be 15c outside, which is nice enough but the car being set to say 20c it might start using heat to get to the desired temp, which would make me warmer.

I'm odd though and much prefer being cold.

Its like the episode of Peep Show with the boiler controls.

I'm not keen on sunroofs, purely for the headroom they rob (I realise this is car specific but I'm a tall chap and can't stand not having plenty of headroom - feels much more claustrophobic to me even with the extra light they let in.

As for air con, I know one thing for sure, my next car will have climate control rather than manual air con! Having to constantly fiddle gets annoying, I want 19 degrees all year round!

There's only one thing more annoying than manual air con...the people who don't understand the concept of climate control who constantly turn it up/down and off/on whilst beating they are too hot or too cold. Set it to your desired temperature and auto mode and leave well alone! It's even worse in the office where I work as I get a range of women who always moan about being cold constantly doing this, traipsing back and forth to the control panel all day whilst muttering about it always blowing toi hot or too cold on them :(

Is it necessarily the fault of the Birtish public though? The first time I heard of the 'either/or' solution was with BMW on E36s.

There was no 'either/or' solution on the E36 - you could have both if you wanted.

Sunroofs used to be standard fit on a lot of cars until about the time when AC became standard fit, when the Sunroof was relegated to an options list and rarely chosen. You can still order one if you wish - but nobody does.

I'm sure I've read a few times that dealers offered A/C or a Sunroof either/or as standard, and both could be selected but it was very rarely was?

My 10 year old sunroof is leak free, as are both of my parents 15 year old w124 sunroofs.

But yes sunroofs do have the risk of being another bill, rust/leaks/motor failing.

Precisely, my sunroof had one of the chains snap when it was open and slid back, not replaceable without getting a whole new sunroof. They're fine as long as they work but its just another thing to go wrong.

The other half's Yaris has AC and a sunroof and it's really nice, especially when getting in on a hot day when the cabin is stuffy.

Whip it open and the air clears in no time.

Why can't you simply turn the temperature down a bit then, or switch it off?

If its 15c outside though and 20c in the car (for example, if the sun's been shining), then it won't heat it any further. If its 21c in the cabin it will cool it down to 20c.

I have never, ever had or used a car with climate control that does that. Used properly it always seems to just.. work. It's 18c outside at the moment, feels quite warm actually. I'm just about to go out and despite the fact the car is set to 21c I guarantee it wont push hot air out of the vents..
