Hi.
Pretty sure I have a duff stick but just wanted to post my findings here to make sure everyone agrees nothing else could be at fault.
Built a budget pc for my stepson:
G840
7850
Z77-D3h
2x4gb Geil Black Dragon.
The build went well apart from forgetting to use AHCI in BIOS (but I have rectified that now) but then he started reporting a couple of problems.
He plays Supreme commander 2...a lot and one of his recent mods was locking up pretty much every time he played. Of course I blamed the mod but did a full reinstall of Windows (AHCI) just to make sure nothing was lurking.
Borderlands 2 was also locking up in exactly the same way (Task manager greyed out and the only way to do anything other than shut down was to switch user).
I began to suspect a faulty RAM stick so I tried them both individually.
One stick crashed on game startup and one stick never crashes (we have tested multiple times).
Obviously the CPU is stock but the 7850 is currently as well.
Do I need to do further testing and if so, I guess memtest is the way forward?
It seems like to me that Borderlands and Sup Com 2 with mod were dipping into the 2nd bank of memory which was then causing this crash.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.
