Downgrading my car - advice needed on a sub £1500 motor

I was thinking more a Golf or a Civic than a Skyline or something OTT, but I'd be loathe to drive anything much than the Leon (or my mum's diesel fiesta). I do really like the Leon, and I'd be gutted if I ended up spending loads of money on repairs and ending up with a worse car for the trouble. Will look into selling in soon though, and getting a replacement if and when I need it. Is about 3k right for a 50k mileage 52 1.6 Leon sold privately?

Having downsized from an absurdly expensive car to run - an e38 7 Series BMW - to a cheaper Mondeo TD & subsequent 328i BMW, I can honestly say it would have been cheaper - in the long run - to have put up with running the e38 for another few years.

Its a false economy. - I do admit, I downsized mine and spent the proceeds on a holiday mind you,it was a good enough reason to do it, for me, at the time. :)
 
There is no way this is going to recoup enough money to be worth the bother. Your car is worth what £2-2.4k? You are going to release about 500 quid-900 quid tops, whats the point?
