DRAM Prices Surge 172% YoY with No Signs of Slowing Down

I did a quick calc and during my (multi)annual home/family hardware refresh (tablet, lappie, desktop, other stuff away) this year I've bought just under 300GB of DDR5/6.

Admittedly 128GB is in one machine.

I dodged most of the bullets in terms of pricing.

Won't be buying again for a while....

Think how much you'll get for 300GB on the black market!

If the prices are right, I might be tempted to stick the single 32Gb DDR5 stick I have in my server, and sell the 2x24Gb sticks that are in there, need to get my shizz together this weekend and get everything I need to shift listed...

The 96GB of 7200MTS Corsair Dominator Titanium I bought back in October 2024 for around £350-390 is now priced at £1,065.
Yike! I checked price of my 128GB GSkill Trident Z5 RGB CL32 6400MHz DDR5 I bought for £404.50 back on December 2023 and on 22 November 2025 it was priced £1019.98. Then near 3 weeks later today on 11 December 2025 the price now increased again to £1579.98!

Everyone has been rushing into Gold as a hedge against inflation, silly, they should have been buying sand!

worst for me was a 512k upgrade for my A500 for £35 - which at the time I thought was a bargain - (it was worth it for Wings and Dungeon Master however)
(and I think I paid £200 for an 80MEG HDD for my A1200.)

I am glad I don't need a pc upgrade at the moment (I was on the fence but these increases have helped make my decision easier) I just have to hope nothing fails on my machine. hopefully in 12-18months time things will settle down.

I was looking into upgrading my modest set up from chipset b550 to b650, cpu, gpu etc. Ram was an afterthought because I didn't realise I needed DDR5 instead of DDR4 - my eyes nearly popped out my head when I looked...and 32gb recommended instead 16 , yikes !
