Putting the politics of Afghanistan aside for one moment I thought I would bring to your attention one of the reasons our military are the best in the world bar none.

Strapping themselves to the side of an Apache in order to rescue a fallen comrade and even the air crew getting out and fighting to hold back the Taliban. Ask yourself, would you have the balls to do what they did?

Lads, I salute you.

Oh it'll be turned into a movie someday... sure.. but it will be rewritten to be the American army and an American soldier as the main character :p

LMAO true, or even worse british film with american actors

As against the war on terror as I am, I cannot fail to recognise the bravery and commitment of our boys out there fighting the fight.

I salute all involved, and RIP to our lad who won't be coming home.

Blimey!

I'm not detracting from the heroism of the soldiers involved, but where does it say that the aircrew getting out and mixing it? I can't honestly see that happening unless the aircraft was unservicable.

Because their mates needed the help, which makes it all the more heroic. You fight shoulder to shoulder with your comrades and you never leave anyone behind.

I was just wondering where you got the info from to say it in your OP as it wasn't mentioned in either of the news reports.

And in reality, Apache aircrew would never get out of the aircraft to engage an enemy unless the aircraft were unable to fly.

From the news report and it is noted in the Sky News article:

They then flew into the battle zone to locate Lance corporal Mathew Ford, the pilots also leaving the helicopters to give covering fire.

Saw this on BBC myself and got a tingly feeling when I read it, must have taken sheer balls to do that, a total shame it was in vain though :(

It's not in vain, the deceased will now be able to have a proper burial as opposed to being kicked around like a football before being burned and then hung up for all to see.

RIP fellow. :(
