Well after 8 bouts of tonsillitus in just over a year, numerous visits to the Doc, a couple of specialists visits I've finally been given a date for a "Tonsillectomy".

I've been dying to have them out for so long it's unbelieveable. Everytime I come down with tonsillitus I'm out of action for around a week with 2 or 3 days off work and it's very frustrating, especially as I'm not one who enjoys being cooped up in the house doing nothing and hates being off work ill (god knows how I'm going to cope with 2weeks off!).

BUT... Ever since I've received the date I've been sat here completely panicing! :o

I'm not normally one to be phased by much but good god I'm dreading this so much now! I can't understand my sudden change in feelings towards this, now that it's "happening" I'm bricking it!

You may say "Bah it's nothing I had them out when I was 5 you big girl" but it's proven to be considerably worse when you're an adult.

Going to have a hospital stay and 2 weeks off work. Reading on the internet hasn't really helped due to everyone calling the 2weeks as "living hell" with "excruciting pain" etc.

My main concern is that I won't be back to normalish for the first England game *crosses figures* - I've actually considered trying to re-arrange becase of this! And also as I'm going to miss out a bank holiday of boozing (something I've not done for as long as I can remember :o)

Anyway just thought I'd share my fun evening :)

I did, stop moaning and get in the theatre! :P I remember eating lots of cold stuff like icecream to make it numb :D

Had mine out when I was 17 - don't worry about it dude ... only took about a week for me to get back to near normal and the worst bit only really lasted 2/3 days :)

My breathe was rancid though so just don't go breathing on people ;)

I once had a bout of acute necrotising tonsillitis...basically, my throat started rotting, I couldn't eat or drink for about a month, I spent 3 weeks in hospital and all I could smell and taste was my own rotting flesh.

Worst thing was; they had to wait for it to clear before operating.

Surely alcohol will prevent infection and numb the pain? :p

I'm another one who gets tonsilitus very easily and pretty bad. Last time I got it even breathing became painful.

Cheers for all the well wishes.

And **** off to everyone saying stop moaning :p

Yer afterwards sounds pretty **** to be honest, ice creams only sometimes helps, warm water, soup and baby food! :o No doubt I'll be on here moaning everyday. I've actually rang up telewest to have cable put in my room especially for this. £5 a month for the full package is definately worth me not having to endure daytime television!

penski - rotting thoat kind of makes mine seem pretty alright!

Piggy - Yep, everytime I get tonsillitus I get the good old ransid breathe :o And I wonder why I'm single!

Also have to go for a 2 hour medical (cough please ;)) a couple of weeks beforehand to make sure I'm fit for the operation - I'm sure this is only a bloody minor operation?! :p

EDIT - Oh and kaiowas, a very good point well made! Pretty sure I'll be drinking within 2weeks knowing me...

not any more. hasn't been for a long time as i recall lol. toast for the win!

Yep, Had mine out when I was 25ish. They made me eat toast as soon as the anaesthetic wore off. I went home and had a roast dinner a few hours later.
The nurse phoned me several times during the following 2 weeks tho :\

Well this time tomorrow I will be officially tonsilless :D

That is unless they don't have a bed for me... I have to ring up first thing tomorrow and check that a bed is still avaliable, what a joke!

Anyway, looking forward to it now. :)

Aiming to be back in work by the end of the week due to huge work loads as we're launching the online stores of two large football clubs. Probably going to be working from home in the meantime - should take my mind of the pain :o Aiming to be back drinking by next Friday  if I stick to vodka then it'll keep it nice and infection free :p

I had it once when I was about 20.... the worst illness ive EVER had.. completely knocked me out for days.. Laying in bed.. literally... Antibiotics did the trick.

Luckily, never had it since

Im sure the Op will be fine... better than having tonsilitis again.

Never had mine out but im sure its better to have them out and a week of pain than tonsillitis for every year.

What hospital you in?

Good old Wigan in the Orrell ward :)

Think the operation is in the afternoon, I'm hoping it's as early as possible as I don't really want to stay in overnight :/

Stuck in a ward full of snoring ill people, no thanks :o

Think I have to either way though :/
