Dreamless Sleep

I used to suffer from bad dreams, then I learnt to "control" them. I would recommend you try it. Basicly when you are dreaming you need to teach yourself to realise you are dreaming, and from that point you know its all in your imagination and you can remove / add whatever you want from them.

Very Inception'esque, but I can do it. (Just need to figure out how to do it in other peoples dreams now :D)

there are several ways to stop/lessen dreaming.
1. the doctor can prescribe you an anti-depressant which helps you fall asleep easier and stay asleep for 10-12hours, you will feel dead IF (unlikely) you wake up early. you will feel crap even if you get enough sleep. but dreams happen less. personally i would NOT choose this option, anti-dp's are not nice at all. may even end up with tranquilisers, but im sure they have their problems too.
2. cannabis. i almost never ever dream after having that and 8-9hrs of lovely sleep. illegal maybe, but very good for what you want.

wow you said what I was thinking...

Stay away from antidepressants; some of the 'side effects' are really not pleasant and are likely to exacerbate the problem in the early stages of taking them... not to mention what happens when you have to stop taking them
Cannabis - if you're a regular, then the chances are you will not remember any dreams whatsoever. I noticed many years ago that when I packed in the gear, for about a month or so afterwards, I had terribly vivid dreams - not unpleasant, just odd and very real and more intense than I remember having before.

However, go speak to you GP. Eat well (healthy stuff yer?) get some exercise and have a think about what's stressing you out during the day (might only be something small etc) and find a way to deal with it - it sounds like your body's natural reaction to some kind of stress to me.
Rather than treating the symptoms (ie with drugs or antidepressants), you'd be better served finding the root cause. Oh, and go and see your GP

Those one-a-night sleep tablets stop me remembering dreams, but (for me anyway) it's more like passing out than sleeping.

Failing that, more playing computer games! I read recently that people that play FPS games have a much better chance of learning to control their dreams.

I find that if I have strange dreams, it's normally influenced by whatever game I was playing earlier, so I always have some 'internet chill out' time after gaming now :P

Had some pretty weird ones after playing the Penumbra series, however my worst nightmare was after playing minecraft. I was mining in a cave, and a creeper jumped off a ledge and landed on my head, but it felt so real I jumped out of bed XD

Because you're in rem sleep and not deep sleep, that's why you're remembering so many dreams. Do more exercise - this releases endorphins and makes you happy and less stressed and results in a better nights sleep.

Also, don't stay up watching tv until late or on the net because this keep your mind active. Do exercise after work or in the morning and then relax an hour before bed by just chilling out and not doing anything that requires too much attention. When you're ready for sleep, lay there and breathe in deep through your nose and out out through your mouth making sure the breath outwards is longer - try for 5 seconds in and 7 seconds out for 5 minutes. This causes the co2 levels in your blood to increase and causes you to relax.
