Hi,

Can someone please clarify what is COMPULSARY to drive in France.

I have viewed several sites, and some seem to suggest that spare bulbs are compulsary, others advised. Some say a warning triangle is compulsary, others only compulsary if your are towing. Some say a GB sticker is compulsary.

It's confused the hell out of me!

Cheers.

Just get them anyway.......better safe than sorry and you wont have to sort the lingo out if you do need spares.

Check AA/RAC for info on european driving do's and don'ts

Definitely have the spare bulbs, we got stopped a couple years ago because dad had a headlight out and the police would have fined us had we not had spares.

Spare bulbs are not compulsary, but recommended. Just get some anyway a kit is only £15 or so.

You need a GB sticker unless you have a Euro-Union logo on your car number plate. Again it costs under a quid - just get one.

Headlight Convertors are compulsary

Warning triangle is not compulsary if you have hazard flashers (again just get one - its a tenner).

Ah.. this'll be the booze cruise we're going on then.

I believe we need a GB sticker, warning triangle and spare bulb set. Not sure about a first aid kit.. oh and a headlamp conversion - although I think we'll only be there during daylight hours.

Bring on thursday

double post,
dman nthell connection is so slow you get timeouts on a 1mb connection

In many new cars there is a way to adjust the headlights without buying anything extra such as a conversion. Also speed camera detectors are illegal, if you have one. Importantly if you are 24mph over the speed limit your licence is revoked on the spot. ;)

I have a tomtom which is normally affixed to the windscreen. Might look like a speed camera detector, but I am sure they must be used to them. Anyway, as it only has very limited European mapping I may remove it.

As for speeding. I have read how anally they enforce the speed limits so I will certainly will be keeping to them. With all the booze piled up in the back we might do well to exceed them anyway and I wouldn't want to annoy our European partners!

Just do what Tom & I did and spend an hour at 110+ mph. I guarantee your sphincter will tighten no end and spare bulbs & warning triangles will be the last thing on your mind :D

Ive come very close, if it wasnt for my uber eyesight. Picture it Le mans 24hr race weekend. Plenty of sports cars on the roads, with an equal number of police to catch everyone. One masssssssssive hill and some unused horsepower. Halfway down the hill at licence losing speed we spotted the police before they spotted us. Close ;)

Tom Tom should be fine, as long as it doesnt have detection software on it too. :)

btw can some1 confirm what the penalties are for speeding if its under 24mph over the limit ?

can they give you points ?
