Driving Long Distances - Pug 206

Personally i'd rather poke my eyes out than do a few 380 mile trips in a 206, i'd be asking for a car that's better for the task.

This is all well and good saying on a forum but my company would simply ask "Does it drive, does it have an MOT and is it safe?" - the 206 is all of those so you would be driving the 206.

Maybe when buying a car for personal use or a company car you can pick and choose something but for a few trips that by the sounds of it he's never made before and will never have to make again they can't really be expected to hire you a nice 5 series or Mondeo or something.

If it is a very long drive, or you are required to do it multiple times in a week though I would certainly think train would be better.

You think thats bad, i might be doing Hampton, New Hampshire to San Antonio Texas next month. Thats 2095 miles.

Much nicer than doing that here though. Fuel at half the price, regular gas stations with really reasonably priced drinks etc etc.

Over here even a coke at a Burgerking in Moto costs 2 quid!

Must suck to work for a company like that, i remember doing a 740mile round trip in my 1.2 53 plate clio, really wish i hadn't.

Well my company isn't really a company as such but still. I've worked for a few fairly big standard companies now and I wouldn't have considered asking for a hire car as long as mine was safe and had an MOT. I'd ask for train if it was from like London to Liverpool or even a room if it meant staying for a few days or something but never car snobbery. I'd imagine I'd be told to jog on.

yeah my recent drive to Toronto ( 900 miles ) was less stressful than a trip down the M6 and M40 to london.

I consider the place i work to be quite tight on expenses... Yet my dad, manager there, might make 1-3 trips a year about 200-300 miles... They always hire something like a new focus/mondeo...

Always the A69 then M6 for my route to Liverpool, and if i'm feeling i fancy a bit of a drive, turn off the A69 for the A686 :D

was gonna say, Mix up the routes for the 3 trips to try and keep it interesting.

Go A69, M6, then come back the M62 and A1(m). Then the next trip do the A69, A686, M6, Then maybe reverse your favourite (least boring) route for the 3rd and final trip.

I'm guessing a lot of this mileage will be done in the dark though, which kinda kills off taking the scenic route (shorter in most cases).

Of course it will!

My 1.4 MK3 Astra, with all sorts of problems made it from Edinburgh to Alton Towers and back in a day. I did manage to lose a front indicator some how but it made it.
