Might give you an indication of what we are talking about, it all depends where.

But its possible for all sorts of stupid moronic crap to happen.

It does every week, and I love to get the hell out of it.

thats just bloody crazy! leaving the motorway from the right hand lane!!!

Well, at least we can tell who has read the thread and who has come in, keyboard at the ready to lay the smackdown ;) The M8 is an unusual motorway but I think the OP just met an idiot rather than did anything wrong.

e : Morba, the M8 also goes through the town centre. Well, the middle of the busiest street in Glasgow, anyway. I understand it's the only motorway in the UK to do this but I might have been fed a line there.

i think that was posted on a link on a post up above, looks nuts!

This thread has to be a joke? How did he hear what the other driver was saying!!? Even at 30 with windows down it would be impossible.
I fail to believe he slowed down to 30 like he said either, if the motorway was busy, the car in the inside lane would have had lorries piling up his rear end. If it was quiet, slow down enough. If you end up on the hard shoulder, stop with your hazards on, let him pass and pull onto the motorway properly.

The M8 can sometimes be sat still, it's a fekking nightmare :p

But yeah, everyone, USE LANES PROPERLY! Not aimed at the OP, just anyone that sits in the middle or outside lane 'because it's the fast lane' etc etc.

Im convinced only 1/4 of the posters in this thread have actually read it....

The OP did nothing wrong, why should he be in the left lane if its leaving the damn motorway? its nt just the M8 thats like that the are parts of the M6 and M1 where the left lane cuts off, and why is it his fault the Mazda raced up alongside him then stayed static?

People get so hung up about others who hog the middle lane. Personnally i don't give a flying monkey. Just overtake them! If i am in the middle lane i try to move over, but, if some moronic idiot comes speeding up to me to move over, flashing his lights, i stay there!! I slow down, make him sweat with anger! Then, if he gets aggressive, let him follow me off the motorway and stop somewhere quiet to sort him out.

Well said, I regularly drive between North Wales and London and sit in the middle lane most of the way unless the is nothing in the left lane or I need to overtake because thats what I was taught, the left lane is usually full of caravans/trucks/old people/etc that cant do 70 so snaking in between the left/middle lane overtaking every 10 seconds would be silly. At the end of the day if I hold anybody up by staying in the middle lane its because they want to break the speed limit in which case moving out of the way would be aiding and abetting ^^

People don't really care if there is a reason for being in the middle lane, it's the useless drivers who stay in the middle when there is no reason to sit there for a long distance.

not directed at anyone, but people who sit in the middle lanes on motorways are very large bell ends, only eclipsed by women, polish people and born again christians in volvos.

uuurrrggghhh I just shuddered at the thought of a polish female born again christian volvo driver, the anti christ in human form......

I don't quite understand what the OP is referring to but I drive the M8 every other day and it's a miserable, hateful nightmare stretch of motorway. Even numpties who drive it daily haven't quite mastered it.

Most of the time when i drive on the motorway the inside lane is filled with slow movers, lorries and caravans e.t.c. Because of this I just generally stay in the middle lane for a while because i'm constantly going past people and think it is far safer than changing lanes every 30 seconds.

Why do people get annoyed? Just overtake in the outside lane

because when the motorway is busy lazy lemons stay stuck in the middle causing the slower moving traffic in the fast lane to prevent the normal people of this world from progressing at a decent pace. usually the inside lane has the odd lorry or petrified bird but apart from that its empty and filtering in and out (as you should be doing anyway) is hardly an effort and allows the roads to flow much smoother/faster.

Go and drive on French toll roads if you want to see poetry in motion, its a true pleasure to drive on those roads, their lane discipline is generally awesome.

so in short, stay out of the middle lane unless you are overtaking, its the law

+1 well said, the only people you ever "hold up" by staying in the middle lane are the ones that want to go over the speed limit anyway so if its a choice between being a "bell end" or a criminal I think ill stick to staying in the middle lane.

And FYI its considered good practice to stay in the middle lane these days* as its safer than weaving between lanes overtaking and you only cause problems for speeders who are brave enough to go over 70 but too much of a pussy to do it in the fast lane.

*According to my driving instructor and the police/fire officers heading the pass plus and advanced driving courses I attended.

I did a perfectly legal overtake last night on a single carriageway road only to be flashed like crazy by the car I overtook, there was no traffic coming the other way and I didn't scream past them.

Some people are just grade A morons.
