Driving rant

+1 well said, the only people you ever "hold up" by staying in the middle lane are the ones that want to go over the speed limit anyway so if its a choice between being a "bell end" or a criminal I think ill stick to staying in the middle lane.

And FYI its considered good practice to stay in the middle lane these days* as its safer than weaving between lanes overtaking and you only cause problems for speeders who are brave enough to go over 70 but too much of a pussy to do it in the fast lane.

*According to my driving instructor and the police/fire officers heading the pass plus and advanced driving courses I attended.

if you sit in the middle lane when the inside lane is empty you are breaking the law, what does that make you?

its ok I already know the answer ;)

But you are not a driving instructor or police officer, so what do you know, they must be right ;):D:D

well from my limited to exposure to ubersonic he believes that

- people are instantly guilty of drink driving if they get breathalised at the road side (no point in waiting to have that confirmed at the station), should therefore have their cars crushed and anyone drinking more than half a pint of beer and then driving is satan

- driving in the middle lane at all times is good practice

- anyone in the middle lane going faster than himself is a criminal

he is comedy gold :)

I did a perfectly legal overtake last night on a single carriageway road only to be flashed like crazy by the car I overtook, there was no traffic coming the other way and I didn't scream past them.

Some people are just grade A morons.

I take it is a mark of respect for my skillz :D

because when the motorway is busy lazy lemons stay stuck in the middle causing the slower moving traffic in the fast lane to prevent the normal people of this world from progressing at a decent pace. usually the inside lane has the odd lorry or petrified bird but apart from that its empty and filtering in and out (as you should be doing anyway) is hardly an effort and allows the roads to flow much smoother/faster.

Go and drive on French toll roads if you want to see poetry in motion, its a true pleasure to drive on those roads, their lane discipline is generally awesome.

so in short, stay out of the middle lane unless you are overtaking, its the law

Quoted for truth. Anyone who thinks that staying the middle lane is OK because they can be bothered to change lanes every 45 seconds should see French toll roads. Lots of traffic and only two lanes in many cases, but the average speed is phenomenal due to ironclad lane discipline.

Probably has a passat 1.9, 2.4 children, accelerates if someone overtakes (possibly with some serving), and brake tests people to 'learn them' ;)

Agree with the French example, only 2 lanes and the majority of the time it is a pleasure to drive on the toll roads. Lovely tarmac quality too, makes the motorway once off Channel Tunnel feel slike moguls.

So when the motorway is busy the inside lane has " the odd lorry"

Not on the motorways i go on...

i do lol at people who accelerate when you go for an overtake on a b road. the morons who do that sort of thing always drive cars that are completely incapable for accelerating at a half decent pace

On the M6 it's generally a constant stream of lorries in lane 1, you'd be changing lanes every minute if you moved back to lane 1 at every opportunity.

I just use my common sense and check my rear view mirror, if there's traffic coming up behind, I'll move over.

I appreciate during rush hour that all lanes should and will be filled. I also appreciate that the inside lane is not always empty, so please lets not assume I'm ignorant to those possiblities :)

however when there is light-medium traffic anyone who plants themselves in the middle lane for the sake of avoiding one other vehicle on the inside lane every 500 yards is a mounter of penis (unless they are female in which case they generally suck at driving anyway and are doomed to drive badly forever and ever)

hope that makes it even clearer, although lets be honest I doubt you needed that clarification :p

I was in the middle lane on the M40 a while back and there was a long stream of cars going slower than me in the inside line. Some guy came up right behind me ( like dangerously close behind seen as we were both going 80+) and started flashing me. There was nothing coming for ages in the outside lane so why on earth he oculdnt have just overtaken me in the outside lane is beyond me

What he did was far more dangerous than me staying in the middle lane.

The sooner we start crushing cars that want to overtake the better, its the only way and you know it makes sense!

This is the United Kingdom, the inside lanes of our motorways haven't be empty at peak times since the 1970's :P

1: I never said that, I said that the police destroying the car of somebody who had been drink driving was a fitting punishment, I tried to point out that the story we were talking about had happened over 14 hours earlier and that it had already been confirmed at the station and the offender charged but nobody paid any attention to that.

And as for believing that anybody driving over the limit is Satan, well yeah ill admit to that, gambling with other peoples lives because your too cheap to get a taxi and too lazy to walk isn't Jesus grade behaviour is it?

2. Re-read what I wrote, Again I never said that, I said that staying in the middle lane when the inside lane is busy is good practice compared to snaking between the inside/middle lanes overtaking slower vehicles every 10 seconds which is true.

3. Correct anyone on a motorway exceeding 70mph who isn't working for the emergency services is indeed breaking the law and therefore a criminal, its not rocket surgery.

No it means they are driving at over 70mph.

Stealing the car you are speeding in is being a criminal.

1. where was he confirmed? please provide proof, all the news stories I saw said he was arrested on suspected drink driving, thats a far cry from being charged and convicted - and if true making all your subsequent ramblings about crushing his car dross
The 23-year-old driver was then arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

2. I could misquote you bady here but to summarise your post you said its better to stay in the middle lane than to make any effort to move in and out traffic in lane 1

3. a criminal receives a CRB number, you don't get one for speeding - you do the maths

Because the middle lane is for driving at 70, inside lane for taking the next cut off, and outside lane for overtaking *******.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Middle lane tools like this really annoy me

I would probably have done the same as the RX driver deliberately trying to annoy you for sitting in the middle lane.

Sadly I cannot currently find the article :( however if you can find one that says he wa released without charge I will happily apologise to you and him for any harm my negative comments about drink drivers may have caused

Ill quote it for you:

I regularly drive between North Wales and London and sit in the middle lane most of the way unless the is nothing in the left lane or I need to overtake because thats what I was taught, the left lane is usually full of caravans/trucks/old people/etc that cant do 70 so snaking in between the left/middle lane overtaking every 10 seconds would be silly.

nothing wrong there...

3. a criminal receives a CRB number, you don't get one for speeding - you do the maths

Speeding is a Criminal offence, what do we call people who commit criminal offences?, I had to look into this last year as while it's technically a criminal offence it doesn't get recorded as such on the Police National Computer and does not constitute a criminal record however you are required to disclose speeding offences when applying for a MoD security clearance.

picture the scene... you are in the left lane, approaching a car in the middle lane and it would easier to undertake than it would to move across 3 lanes of traffic, only to move back across 3 lanes after the overtake - all because the numpty can see a slow moving caravan on the horizon. a textbook middle lane moron!
