driving test

Just try and relax.

If it goes terribly wrong, so what - you can do it again.

If you think you've made a mistake, the best thing to do is just resolve it calmly and safely.

On my test, I stalled twice when at lights (going both ways down the same dual carriageway!), because I'd come to a stop, put the handbrake on, thought I'd put it into Neutral (when in fact I'd down-shifted into 1st ready to go again), and lifted the clutch, and stalled. All I did was check it was in Neutral, check my surroundings, restarted the car, put it in 1st, then checked my surroundings again before moving off.

Also - when looking at mirrors, make obvious head movements towards the mirrors, and do it fairly regularly. Don't just move your eyes - they can't see that as easily!

Above all though - just relax, it's not difficult, and they're not "out to get you" or "wish you to fail", they're just doing their job and ensuring you meet the minimum requirements.

Meh 62quid in the UK  ? Here it's 200-270€ per exam :(.

Sometimes I'm surprised why some people on ocuk don't have a license, getting one is like 5 times cheaper and easier than here.

All seems very good advice.

Good advice, you'll always have little things that go wrong, so long as your safe it should be fine. On my test I pulled away facing downwards on a hill, it popped out of first gear but I didn't notice, so I began rolling down the hill thinking I was driving it! When I did notice I just put it straight into third and carried on, got a minor for incorrect use of gears but passed.

Just pretend your taking a friend on a little drive and keep it as smooth as possible. If you know you are ready so will the examiner hence you will pass without any problems. When you pass you will think back and say to yourself was that it? :)

if your nervous eat a couple of bananas before your test it helps calm nerves, above all relax take your time and try what i did twice went down the wrong road, actually i did it on purpose as i knew what was lying ahead down those roads very tricky crossroads, and always had a problem with them, and before anyone ask's he cannot fail you as long as you do the right motions indicate ect,and i passed this was 3yrs ago good luck

At the end of a day it's a driving test, you've gone 24 years without driving so if you fail another couple of months is nothing. Try your best, relax and remember what you have been taught :). Make sure you get a good nights sleep and a good breakfast in you.

My examiner refused to talk back to me during my test. :( my nerves were ridiculous but seriously its not the end of the world if you fail just do it again.
As Frankie goes to Hollywood says....Relax

All you need to do is demonstate you are a safe and competent driver. And don't go too slow, more drivers fail for going too slow than going too fast every year.

I never had problems because I'm a very relaxed person in most circumstances, I just went in with a "Well, I'll try my damndest and if i fail well sod it, another ton out of pocket, no big thing" didn't have a problem, but i guess we're all different in situations. I got 7 minors in all, missed a few mirror checks and didn't use an exit signal going straight accross a small roundabout.

Examiner was a nice guy, just have a freindly chat, that'll calm you down anyway. It's very easy to pass a test if you're any good at driving.

bananas help get rid of butterflies. Talk to the examiner as much as you can.

honestly it all depends on the examiner, first time round I failed for not driving over hatching to allow a speedy car behind me to pass which I thought was a ridiculous reason for to passing but then second time round I did 40mph in a 30...wasn't paying attention when the speed limit changed but still passed.

Am I the only person who HATED talking to my examiner?

I decided to go to the test in my work uniform which does a nice big 'Bentley' logo on it. As expected all the usual jokes were trotted out "You're not doing the test in a Bentley, are you?" "If I pass you, can I get a Discount?", etc. Then a few odd questions like how did I get the job, where we are based and so on, usual stuff that you don't even need to think about. Then I made the mistake of mentioning one of the jobs that I was helping on at the time... a Battery drain. "Oh!" She exclaims "My Jag has one of those".

Then begun the worst 10 minutes of my life. I had to answer several rather difficult questions regarding a Jaguar XKR and it's electrical system (especially difficult for an apprentice that has only been in the trade for a few months) all whilst trying the hardest I've ever tried in my life to do anything (I.E, Drive!). I can recall never wanting to tell anyone to "SHUT UP!!!!" as much in my entire life! :p

I'm glad I didn't. I passed with zero minors :).

Focusing on your breathing more than usual should help with the nerves. Don't take any unnecessary risks (I was sat at a blind junction for 10 minutes waiting before it was safe to proceed!). Don't get too concerned when you feel that you've made a mistake. I thought I failed twice. And don't pay too much attention to when/what the examiners write down.

The day of my driving test it was absolutely pelting down with rain and I spent the full 30 minutes talking to the examiner how crap the weather is in Northern Ireland, the time flew in :).

Although my instructor told me not to think of it as a test, just as if you're taking a stranger out for a run in your car. It does help, and pay no attention as he writes things down, he has to do that anyway even if it's good.
