Basically, my father sold his Skyline to a guy up in North Wales for £4k plus an Audi in part ex. The guy got lost coming down, it was late at night and he hardly had any petrol left so we offered to meet up with him and do the deal near Brecon.

I was the only one with DOC on my insurance so I drove the Audi back. There was a fallen tree near by so there was police about and they decided to do a stop check. I was issued with a producer for Insurance, License and MOT. Prior to buying the car the guy told us it had 10 months MOT and a few months tax left, we had a quick look at all the docs but at the time didn't realise the recent MOT was missing and only the old one was there (it was gone midnight and we were all tired)

So we rang the guy as soon as we got in and he said no problem he must have left it in the house and he'll send it down, over a week has passed now and no sign of MOT certificate and cant get hold of him on either his house number or mobile!

I explained all this to the police when I took in my license and insurance but they wern't really interested and couldn't tell me what was going to happen just that it will get passed on to another department to investigate.

Anyone know what the likely outcome of this will be? I've had a quick look on google and it could be a fine of upto ~£1000 but no points. Would I have to declare this when I go to renew my insurance? Also, can you check the MOT status of a car online? The guy either didn't have an MOT or he's wrapped the car up and is in hospital! Find it strange that he hasn't answered his house phone at all and I've also posted up on the GTR register where it was sold through and PM'd him on there but no reply.

Its your responsibility to check the vehicle is roadworthy and check all documents, since you failed to do this the problem rests firmly at your door not the guy you got the audi off.

No offence but first it sounds like you have been had with the Audi.

Secondly the law states that ignorance is no defence so you most probably will face some kind of charge from the Police.

Best go down the local nick and try to explain to them what you have to us and pray you get a sympathetic copper.

Get it MOT'd as soon as possible, this will at least show the car is/was in roadworthy condition which will help your case. Lack of MOT is not an endorsable offence IIRC, but you would be liable to a fine depending on if the police wish to pursue this.
