Driving without seatbelt

The only time I won't wear a seatbelt is if i'm moving the car of the drive onto the road, and that takes about 20 seconds. Otherwise Like others have said I 'feel naked' without it.

I always wear mine.

My dad on the other hand has the annoying habbit of starting the car, driving up the road and then remembers to put in on while still driving.

I don't know why, but he does it every single time. :o

People who forget I can live with - it's stupid, but it's forgiveable. Willfully not wearing your seat belt in my opinion is plain daft - it's more than that really, its bloody stupid. It's selfish too - if you become cripple or die, it's the ones around you who will suffer more than you. I really hope people have half a brain enough not to forget to put on their seatbelts.

My thoughts exactly.

I've got a friend who doesn't wear a seatbelt so I won't have him in my car. My car, my rules.

just something to consider, I know I've mentioned it before.

Your airbag will not activate if you are involved in a crash and DO NOT have your seat belt on.

So chances are, youd get pretty mangled!

Airbag??

205 GTI :)

But seriously, I think you'd be an idiot not to wear a seatbelt. It's not uncomfortable or annoying, and it could save your life.

sure about that? Thought it was a sensor behind the numberplate?

Positive, and no, there are two sensors that have to be triggered together in order to activate the airbag.

Seat belt pre tensior and impact sensor. A lot of air bag warning faults are related to the coupling under the seats. If these get disturbed they flag an air bag fault. The wiring needs to be checked and the fault reset.

If only one of these sensors is triggered, the air bag will not go off. So, if you are not wearing your seatbelt and you hit something very hard, the impact sensor will assume that the pretensior was able to do its job and hold you in place. The airbag will not be deployed.

When, in actual fact, your face and brains will be splattered all over the steering wheel or you'll have flown through the windscreen.... :(

Just curious to see who would admit to doing this
Well I did :)

I started a thread on it a few months back as I never used to wear a seatbelt until I got pulled over. Never really had a reason for not wearing one apart from habit. I always wear one now as I made myself get into the routine.

Wearing a seatbeat is a must...it's not only for accidents but also for emergency braking and swerving.

One time, I drove off in a hurry and forgot to wear my belt, a car just came out of hedge suddenly ahead of me and I had to swerve hard, my body was thrown about. Lucky I was able to regain the control of car but it made me realise that seatbeat has more uses than just saving your life. It can able to hold you in position in any events like unexpected turn corner.

Always wear mine, but I will take it off to do a reverse park on the odd occasion.

If I don't put it on, after about 100metres the car tells me I haven't got it on :p

Always. Feels strange just moving the car without one on..

What gets on my nerves is those who justify it because they once heard about someone who was thrown clear because he had no seatbelt on, and would have been dead otherwise. I think the chances of that happening are a bit smaller than the seatbelt saving you..

My mum knows someone that died because he was thrown from the car then the car rolled on top of him crushing every bone in his body :(

I find it very strange if I forget and always put it on. I dont forget to put it on very often though.

Always wear a seatbelt here, can't get very far if i dont wear one, as if i get to about 5mph or something i keep getting a warning chime, and the seatbelt light on the dash lighting up to say its not on.

I must admit I very rarely wear my seatbelt.

In the job I do I'm constantly in and out or cars - When lining them up on the forecourt moving them etc.

Obviously when doing that I don't wear a belt because I'm moving a matter of meters at very low speeds on private land.

But I find that I take this into when I'm also doing longer journeys, same with a lot of my colleagues

Most cars in the range I sell even beeps for about 1/2 a mile to remind me about the belt but I have just learned to ignore it because it goes away same as my colleagues.

But sometimes I do wear my belt when I put some thought into it.

Yep, always wear it and so does everyone else in my car. I don't even notice its on so it being (un)comfortable isn't really an issue.

I refuse to drive without one, I wont start the engine till everyone in the car has belted up...
